Hi, I recently found that a relative was born in the Derry area with Aghadowey mentioned on an English census after he came from Ireland. William Moore was born in the area in approximately 1865. Could it be possible to find out his parents on any Irish records as I have been unable to find any reference to him before he married and was living in the Liverpool area. Thank you in advance.

Moore's a very common surname in Aghadowey area and having the Christian name of William doesn't help much. It's quite possible that I might have details of him and his family if we could pinpoint which William Moore is the correct one.
Is his father's name and occupation listed on the marriage certificate?
Do you know what religion he was? - family probably Presbterian or Church of Ireland in Co. Londonderry.
When is the 1st census record you've found for him?
Names of all his children? - perhaps named after relatives in Ireland.

William Moore, brother of James* (above), m. Margaret Moore. William was drowned in the Bann and buried in Ballymoney Cemetery before the family realised he'd been found. Children: Samuel, William (born 18 Mar.1867), Catherine, James.

Is there any way of finding out when he came over to England as through living relatives I know that William got married in Scotland in 1886 because I am slightly unclear about which William is my direct relative.

his wife was called Catherine Maclean although she was Scottish and not Irish

He had 6 children called William, James, Samuel, Robert, Mary, Beatrice. if it's any assistance he was a police officer but also owned pubs around Liverpool as well. possibly he had there sorts of jobs when he was in Ireland.

James Moore (bleacher), son of Samuel Moore (weaver), married 20 Oct.1853 Aghadowey Presbyterian Church to Nancy/Annie McAuley- they had 8 children and she died before Apr.1885. James Moore married 2nd on 10 Dec.1885 Coleraine Registry Office to Sarah Hunter. The family lived in Aghadowey Parish (1853 Ballygawley townland, 1859/67 Moneycarrie townland, 1869 Ardreagh townland). The family were Presbyterian and attended Aghadowey Presbyterian Church. 8 known children:
1. Peggy Jane Moore (c1859) m.(1883) David McGrath and had family.
2. Robert (c1861-d.y.).
3. William**
4. John (1866).
5. Wilson (1869).
6. Elizabeth "Lizzie" (1871) m.(1897) Richard Grissam and had family.
7. Robert (1873).
8. David (1875).
William Moore** born 4 Apr.1864 Moneycarrie, Aghadowey. Married1 Apr.1886 Patrick, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland to Catherine McLean age 23. He was 21 years old, County Police Officer, lived at Bootle near Liverpool, oarents- William [should be James] Moore farm labourer and Annie Moore maiden surname McAuley (deceased).
