Hi: first post here. I am backtracking the immigration of James Kelly/Catherine O'Connor and just found a match in the 1851 UK census. It appears that Catherine's father Peter O'Connor was a policeman, resident in West Sculcoates, Yorkshire.
Any information on police available?
Thanks,
-

Hi
I have checked the Hull personel of the 19th century but I was unable to find a Peter O`Connor,
I found a Edward Connor started 16.9,1842 and Francis O`Connor started 11.2,1879 he was PC 17
Hope this helps. I also checked the East Riding to no avail, sorry.

I have checked the 1861 and 1871 Census and He is definitely a policeman in both those years, there is a possibility that he could have been serving out of Hull My records could be wrong so you would be best contacting the East Yorkshire Archives in Beverley They have a very comprehensive collection of registers from the Hull city police

Thanks, looks like the thread found me! :)

That is very helpful as an additional data point in the Isles. I have subsequently found the family listing in the 1861 census, but not the 1871 which is important as some family immigrated to the US in about 1868. Having them unreported in 1871 would clinch this Peter O'Connor as the correct one, can you tell me where you found that? I am using the database through ancestry.com. I will also see what I can find through the Hull city police.
Many thanks,
Donald
