Title: Early Motor Car. AD-50
Post by: toby webb on Sunday 02 August 09 20:26 BST (UK)
I would be very pleased for any comment on this car which is possibly driven by an ancestor. The date on the postcard stamp cancellation is 13 Sept 1906. Where would one find out who had registered this car?
Thanks for any help. Toby Webb.

Hi
I posted a link to this thread on a Classic Car forum

Here is a reply within a couple of hours.

I believe that it is a Renault and the registration is Gloucestershire. The registration records for that time seem to have survived and I suggest that Toby Webb contacts:

The County Record Office, Clarence Row, Alvin Street, Gloucester GL1 3DW

Telephone 01452 425295. E-mail: archives[at]gloucestershire.gov.uk

Hi StintonLomas,
Many thanks indeed for your help. I have contacted the Glos. Re. Office
I see that you are interested in the BISHOP family. Would this include any in Swindon? I knew a William Bishop who was a highly skilled monumental mason. A real gentleman.

Viewers may be interested to know that the car turns out to be a 5h.p. Baby Peugeot.  Many thanks, StintonLomas. The owner's name had no significance for me.

Hi
I have passed on the info about the car.

My Wiltshire Bishop was my maternal Grandmother's, maternal Grandfather.
He was from Malmesbury but was living in Glos. North Nibley area 1861, this is roughly where all his children were born.
John Bishop born C1789 married Hannah Owen

Toby.

Out of interest can we have the owners name? It may be of significance to someone or is this not allowed?
Thanks
Polly
