Can anyone help ? I have a relative buried in Blackamoor Cemetery in Darwen, Lancashire, UK.
The problem is I am a little confused, I know that there is an old and new cemetery in Darwen accross the road from each other on the A666 however is this also known as Blackamoor Cemetery or is it a completely different one ?

??? Might it not help ~ if ye know when the rellie was buried ~ to ask someone in the office when the new place was opened? That might cancel one of them out.

I used to live in Blackburn & Darwen and have never heard of Blackamoor cemetery. There is Darwen cemetery (the one you mention) and 2 cemeteries in Blackburn - known as Pleasington & Blackburn.
However, there is a district of Lower Darwen/Blackburn called Blackamoor and I think this must refer to the graveyard at St.James church on Stopes Brow in Lower Darwen. See genuki website link below.

Blackburn council website refers to it as St.James cemetery, Blackamoor.
Hope this helps. MJW

Blackamoor Cemetery at Guide is the cemetery of St James Church, Lower Darwen. If you need to look around the cemetery, make arrangements with the vicar as the cemetery is kept locked due to vandals.
Telephone number and address:
01254 53898
St. James Vicarage, Stopes Brow, Lower Darwen, Darwen, BB3 0QP
Hope this helps,
