My family tree shows that my Great Uncle William John Powell - 106604 was a Squadron Leader in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He died 7.5.1944 and is remembered at Heliopolis War Cemetery, Cairo, Egypt. Is there anyway I can find out what happened to him - how and where did he die for example ??? ???

Hi There - I just noted your post on RAF site - followed you here & joined - basically to inform you that I have photos of WJP in the middle east on service. I don't know if you found anything on him - I am just setting out to find data. He and my mother were obviously very fond of each other. I only have his letters/postcards to her - which are "love letters" as far as censorship and 1940s etiquette would permit. I have just finished photographing them prior to donating them to the imperial war museum. I would be happy to email copies to you if they are of any interest.
regards
Dick

As Dickdv has made only one post, I don't think that he is able to access the PM service. He needs to respond at least once to this thread.
