Can anyone find a record of the birth of Elizabeth Carroll in Belfast 1867 please? Her father's name was Robert Carroll.
Thanks

Index to Irish civil registrations is online (free)-
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails;t=searchable;c=1408347
With the details in the index you can order a birth certificate.
Also, IGI (www.familysearch.org) has some, not all, Irish births 1864-c1882 so it would be worth checking there for Elizabeth or any known siblings.

Hi there,
Not one single hit for Elizabeth Carroll ::) on the pilot but thanks anyway for the link. A few hits on Family Search but not the correct Elizabeth.

My gt gt grandmother was also a (slightly older) Elizabeth Carroll, but appears as "Carl" on her daughter's birth certificate - maybe worth trying some more way-out spellings. Also it apparently took a few years of registration before all events were registered - maybe she was one of the minority of unrecorded births.

Hi,
What a coincidence! Thanks for the tip. I have tried Carol, Carrol etc but I will try something more way out as you have suggested before I give up! :)

I am having trouble finding an Elizabeth Carroll - who may or may not be the same person. I don't know what year she was born, but she married a William Wheeler who was a British Medical Officer. They had three children and I don't know what became of her after 1897. The two older children were raised in a Catholic orphanage in Canada, and the youngest child was raised by William's mother as a protestant in England. I have no idea what ever became of Elizabeth Carroll (Wheeler).

Welcome to Rootschat.
Do you have the marriage certificate for Elizabeth Carroll to William Wheeler?- should list her father's name and occupation if marriage was in Ireland or England.
Do you know where the family was living in 1897 (last time you've a record of Elizabeth)?
Two children raised in Canadian orphanage- were they Home Children? posting a query on Canadian board might be a good idea as researchers there can give advice about locating records, etc.

We have nothing but her name - and that's about all her own children had. I don't even know what she looked like. My grandmother spent her life looking for records of her, but to no avail. I hope that in the electronic age something may surface. Her husband William was born in 1866 and was English, but I don't even know if they were the same age. One rumor was that she entered a convent when my grandmother was only six months old.

There are numerous births for Elizabeth Carroll born c1867 Belfast area and since civil registration only started in 1864 her birth might not have been registered.
The first thing you need to do is get the marriage certificate and see what she gave as her residence and her father's name and occupation.

The trouble is, the man she married (William Wheeler) was in the British Army Medical Corps, and so I haven't been able to track anything down that way -
I'm really at a road block with them!

Elizabeth Carroll was the sister of Kathleen and Margaret Carroll. She (Elizabeth) married a man in Dublin, named William Bailey. Her sister Kathleen married a man named William Harrison, who was Britich Army RAMC/AHC. I canot find a trace of her either, after marriage. William harrison got out of the army in 1895 (I have his military record), but no trace of him after that. Their other sister Margaret Carroll married another man in the RAMC/AHC. (John Martin Wheeler). I know the father's name of all three women was Michael Carroll, and they would have all been born in the 1864-1869 range. I have been unsuccessful in trackinf down the mother's name. HELP! :)
Right now, I am left with mysteries of what happened to Margaret Carroll Wheeler after 1897 (when her last child was born) and what happened to her sisters.
