I am looking for Janet BOYES b 1849 somewhere in Scotland according to 1871/91/1901 UK census and her husband William MCKEAND b 1843 also somewhere in Scotland.
They married in 1877 in Liverpool, but I have no idea where to start looking for them in Scotland.
The enumerators seem to think Scotland is a small place!
Hope SKS can help

Hi Lorna
You are a star! All the census info I could find stated only Scotland as the birthplace. Where did you find the 1881 census from as the ones I've found on the internet were not as complete as yours?
Many, many thanks indeed. i can now carry on searching for a bit longer!

hi Claire,
i purchased the 1881 uk census on disc last october, and have since found it a big help. before i had it, i was completely stuck on more than one thing. - if there is anything else you would like me to look up on it, i would be more than happy to try. (although, i cant always guarantee a quick reply, i will do my best :) ).
kind regards, Lorna.

Hi Claire,
I really reccommend buying the 1881 British Census. It's not expensive U.S. $25.50. I've had mine for 3-4 years & it's been worth every cent ( though I was extra lucky, a gen. friend bought it as a pressy for me ).
It covers Scotland, Wales, & England.
You can order it online at http://www.ldscatalog.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView
I would guess that if you are close to a local F.H.S. that you could either buy it, or order it from them. I'm not close to any F.H.S.'s, so I speak without any real knowledge. It would be worth ringing them to inquire.
I don't know what I do without mine. I use it over & over & over again.
Cheers Carolyn
