Title: Help needed with dating and ages of this family
Post by: Lady constance on Wednesday 29 July 09 08:54 BST (UK)
Hi everyone,

QUESTION ONE: I Am hoping for some advice over the date this photo was taken

QUESTION TWO (the long shot question) perhaps some possible ages of some of the unknown members of this family (all look a bit nutty dont they) I have included the DOB of the people i know so that might help with the dating.

BACK:
1)Harry Ketley DOB 1882
  2)UNKNown
 3) Unknown
4) unknown
 5) unknow
6) Florence ketley nee patrick DOB 1888 Married to (1)
7) Albert Ketley DOB 1916 son of (1) and (6)    EDITED DATE TO 1916
8) Maud Patrick DOB 1892  sister of (6)

FRONT: All unknown

The final aim of this excersise is to see if i can work out who all the people are!! this is apparantly a gathering of the ketley and patrick familly (mostly patrick) that is all i know. i'm hoping to try and match some of the ages you may be able to give me with other family members and earlier and later photos. I have been working on this for hours today :-)

any clues greatly appreciated i am hopeless at guessing ages.

Regards
Constance

I think no. 7 should be 100 years younger!
At a guess, 1930s.  Clues in the men's kit are the round collar on one shirt, and the wide lapels on a single-breasted coat.

Ha Ha you are correct 1916 opps.... i get 1800 and 1900 so confused i even put on my drivers license application 1882 instead of 1982 :-) thanks for ummm...pointing that out :-)

sometime in the 1930 makes sense as my granddad is fairly young still...

any other ideas ?? or on the ages of the other criminal looking people?? there is a murderer in this family... wonder if he is there .. he was out of prison int he 1930's

:-D

Hello Constance
1920's,other than that it's difficult to say as older women didn't keep up with fashion changes.
Love the old chap at the front who seems to have dozed off.
As for ages:back row from the left:(couple)mid-late 50's;late 20's - early 30's;(couple)mid - late 60's;late 50's;(couple)mid - late 20's.
front row from the left;(couple)late 50's - early 60's;(couple)early 70's;(couple)late 70's - early 80's.

If Albert Ketley (No. 7) was born in 1916, and his dad in 1882, I would think this would have been taken around 1940.

That would make young Albert around 24, his mum about 52 and his dad about 58. As has been mentioned, they don't appear particularly fashion conscious. Another thing is that people then often looked much older than today's people of a similar age.

Could the older folk be the parents of the two families?

Regards,

Didy.

Hi everyone
thanks so much for the advice. I would say that the "not concsious with fashions' would be a good guess.

i am just about to go to bed, getting a little late here, but just wanted to say thanks for your time as quickly as i could. I will have a good look through your ideas in the morning. I think the sugestion that they look older than they are is probably correct.

My Gdad (born 1916)  He looks like he may be aged in the mid - late 20's?? he didn't marry till after WWII so i guess the photo could be in 1930's to early 40's however as he was in the navy if it was war times i would expect him in uniform. so before the war??? (Oh P.S he was captured by Germans TWICE and escaped... never talked about it...)

thanks all i guess it helps just talking about it and getting as many pieces of advice as possible

you are all brilliant

Constance

EDIT: Xinia: My Patricks are all from east London, before that they were in brightlingsea / Harwich, Essex, never seemed to move much further than that...do you have any connections there?? if so i have plenty of information :-)
regards
Constance
