Thoms Directory 1922 shows the Franco-British Portrait Co in 46andahalf Harrington St and 85 Talbot St.
There's a mention of Grafton St, but I don't see it on the Grafton Street listing.

hi folks ... Thanks for that info, do you think i could assume that the Grafton St branch closed before 1922 because its not in the Thoms listings for that year an the photo`s i have, have that branch printed on back which would make them pre 1922 ??? ..

there's no photographer at 111 Grafton Street in 1894 - so that puts an earliest date for any photo's with that address.

as for the 1922 listing maybe they occasionally used a studio or room at that address ?

I've seen the same kind of listing in Thom's before, where the listing for a business in X street will include the wording 'also in Y' street - but there is no listing on Y street. I suspect at least some of these are due to that fact that sometimes Thom's is a little out of date. I know people have found listing for ancestors that were known to be deceased at the time of the directory date.

Just saw in Thoms 1923 the Franco Portrait Co. in No.6 North Earl Street (no British in title) and it was not in the Index.
Nothing in No.5 of interest to you.
Will look further.

Anthony, some more directory entries on the photographers you asked about

both listed in 1914 (neither listed in 1894)

  Keogh Bros, 75 Dorset st - 1914

  H. Roe McMahon 11 Harcourt St,
    25 Sackville St & 37 Grafton St

these entries would appear to suggest that the earliest possible date for some of your photos is sometime between 1894 and 1914. Maybe berdina's McMahon  timeline could help to establish when the McMahon Photographers changed from father Roe to son Henry..

Re your No.5 Thoms 1911 has a full page advert facing  P.2204 for Roe McMahon with addresses given as No.11 Harcourt Street, No.37 Grafton Street and No.25 Sackville Street.
Except for Keogh Bros. in Dorset Street none of the others appear.

Thoms 1923 ...I should have added to my reply No.9 for the addresses you gave.
Upon perusal of Index for 1923 Roe M'Mahon shown as artist and photographic agent and importer at No.11 Harcourt Street and No. 37 Grafton Street with residence at No. 1 Terenure Park Terenure.
In addition  a H Roe MacMahon is shown at Kentucky , Howth Road
For 1928  no mention of H at Kentucky and Roe is also at No.55 Lwr.O'Connell Street.
Similar 1929  except a Roe L> is at Kentucky Howth Road
For 1934 delete the O'Connell Street address and Roe L's address is now Kentucky 155 HowthRoad.
Thoms 1942, 1945, 1948 7 1951 show only the Harcourt and Grafton Street addresses (nothin for residences that is apparent) The 1958 vol. has an entry in the Index only and the 1942 and 1948 Vols. describe him also as a wireless dealer.                    Regards    Quaxer
