Hi
I would like to find anyone who knows about my great nan - I believe she died somewhere between 1925 - 1935ish. I have reason to believe her surname would've been Brumhead. She died at an early age when she fell in a fire. She left several children orphaned (inc, Dennis, Charles and James) Dennis being my grandad - he was adopted by his aunt who was a Smith.
I also have no idea who my great grandad was - as I don't know who my great nan was married to or what happened to him which left her a widow/ alone - meaning my grandad became an orphan.
Any news would be gratefully received.
I do believe my great nans death was in the paper at the time, but I cannot find any online records for Hull and I don't live in the area.
Thanks

Hi
What a sad story.
Do you know what her first name was?

OK, it looks as though the four BRUMHEAD children were born in the Hull/Sculcoates area 1924-1929 (that narrows down dates a bit) and that their mother's maiden name was DREW.
Bear in mind that there is a rule on Rootschat not to post information on living persons - that's why I'm not mentioning the names of the four Brumhead/Drew children.

Marriage, Dec qtr 1923:
Charles H. BRUMHEAD
Clara DREW
Hull 9d 589
-
There was a Clara Drew who became a Brumhead - and a Clara Brumhead who died at an early age (29 in 1930).
I just don't know which out of two Brumheads who died early was my great nan (Clara, Rose died 1932 aged 22)
I also wonder whether Clara had a sister called Beatrice who married a man called Smith - who could've possibly adopted my grandfather

From FreeBMD at www.freebmd.org.uk:
Death, Dec qtr 1930
Clara BRUMHEAD aged 29
Hull 9d 374
-
All three Brumhead boys are now deceased - unsure about the fourth child - was unaware they was four children.

If you search www.freebmd.org.uk for BRUMHEAD births with maiden name DREW, you will see the four I'm talking about (including the 3 boys you knew of).

I cannot find any online records for Hull and I don't live in the area.
For the future it might help you to know that coverage of the Hull area is good on the free site www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk. (Bear in mind that this site yields references relevant for orders from the local register offices and not the GRO; the references are not transferable between the two).
On that site you will see this marriage, which may represent a remarriage for Clara's widower Charles:
1931
BRUMHEAD Charles H
STEPHENSON Eliza
St Stephens Hull JD/13/300
(FreeBMD has the same marriage with the GRO reference: Dec qtr 1931 Hull 9d 629)

Possible birth for Charles from FreeBMD:
Birth, Jun qtr 1903
Charles Herbert BRUMHEAD
Hull 9d 326

thanks I'm looking at the yorkshireBMD and the 1901 census etc - but as you mention it's a case of possibilities.
I wonder why the boys were orphaned if they had a living father? I know one boy kept the name Brumhead, one became a Jennison and my grandfather became a smith (adopted by his aunt).
thanks for the information regarding the possible remarriage.

Are you sure the aunt (Smith) was Beatrice and not Rosalind?
Marriage Dec qtr 1933

Smith James (Drew)

Ignore that!
Marriage Dec qtr 1933
