Hi Could anyone help me with information on my g'g'grandparents Josiah and Annie Goodman (nee Gallivin).
All i have is there marriage certificate of Feb the 3rd 1878 in Stratford in Essex there ages on the certificate indicate the same year of birth (1848) and i know that they were in Plaistow (42 Nelson street) on the 12th of august 1879 from my Great grandmothers birth certificate (Edith Maud Goodman).
This is all i can discover they do not appear on Census returns apart from an entry for an Annie Gallivin on the 1861 return for a property in Hanover square listed as domestic servant and apart from the fact that Galivin is a rare Irish surname i cannot prove this was her.
I am completely at a loss with this line and any help would be great.
Thanks
Neil.

Hi - what was Josiah's occupation on both Certs ?
and his Father's name ?
and Annie's Father's name & occupation ?
......... and what more do you know of your Great grandmothers early life ?(Edith Maud Goodman).
When and where did she marry for example ?
Did she call herself Edith or Maud ?

whilst waiting .... this chap is on the 1881 census, with a wife Annie born Kent, Deptford, and a daughter Maud born 'London Middx', 1879
Births Jun 1848
Goodman Josiah Bedford v6 p19
On the census he is named Joseph ... in Chaddesden, Derbyshire, a Railway Labourer ...
RG11/3393; Folio: 53; Page: 7
an Annie Gallon / Gallum can be seen in earlier Deptford area Census ....
I notice that an Edith Maud Goodman marries in the Derbyshire area after 1901 (lost the Refn for now)
any links to Deptford, Derbyshire or Bedford known ?

Hello Neil.
The area of Stratford in the early 1800's was included as part of Essex, then some time later became part of the County Borough of West Ham.
Then after WW2 the Borough of West Ham merged with the adjoining Borough of East Ham--to become the one County Borough of Newham.
The Borough of Newham has an excellent website pertaining to family research.
To locate the above referenced website log on to the official County Borough of
Newham's website.

Hi' Josiah Goodmans occupation on his marriage cert is porter and shunter on his daughters birth cert.
His fathers name on the marriage cert is John Goodman and he is a laborer.
Annie Gallivins father is listed as John Gallivin also a laborer.
Edith Maud Goodman married John Darley Grayson on the 4th December 1899 in Camberwell.
On the marriage cert she has stated her father as Joseph Goodman Engine Driver (deceased)
No idea what she called herself she died in 1950 and i never knew her but she called her eldest daughter Maud.
On my Grandmothers birth cert she stated her name as Edith maud Grayson formerly Bradley ? could she have been previously married?
Regards
Neil.

Heres the chap seen in 1881 - father is a John ...... but there again a frequently seen name, wondering tho, given Josiah's Railway connections by 1878 - 1881.
1851 - HO107/1752; Folio: 453; Page: 8 - Great Barford - Bedford & Cardington Regn District
John Goodman 46 Head Farm Labourer born Great Barford, Beds
Elizabeth Goodman 42 Wife Keysoe, Beds
John Goodman 17 son
George Goodman 15 son
Leonard Goodman 13 son
Charlotte Goodman 9 dau
Mary Ann Goodman 6 dau

Hi
The great barford Josiah seems very likely i remember my grandmother saying that her grandparents were not London area born particularly her grandmother who she said was Irish.
She remains a mystery but i am sure it is her on the 1861 census in Hanover Square.
Thanks.
Neil.

Hello there,
I am a little reluctant to give you this information but if you go on to the Old Bailey site you will possibly find him up for bigamy. He did indeed marry, three times, burying the first. If this does prove to be yours I would like to hear what happened to her. Her marriage certificate names her father as John Gallivin.
