Hi Wendy,
Thanks for the census info. I will try and do some further investigations to be 100% sure.
I may need to order their marriage certificate to confirm that Evan Elward is Edward's father :-\
Info. much appreciated :)

Hey there, don't suppose your Elwards ended up in Maesteg by any chance did they? I've got a bunch of them that came from St Athans circa 1881 - 1891 (in work, never got the details on me).
They married into my lot, so not gone backwards, only forwards, but let me know if you're after some details

Hi Halfasheep,
As far as I'm aware they were not living in Maesteg. I was just curious about my grandfathers sister Mary who married an ELWARD in 1904 Cardiff.
Mary born & living in same area as her brother in 1911. Mary & Edward had three daughters Ethel Mary b1905, Florance May b1907, Gwendoline C b1912 all born Bonvilston Glamorgan, don't know if there's any more.
There's a marriage BMD
Ethel May Elward married Alfred F Brooks Jun q 1925 Cardiff

My Elward married into the Buckley family (like I say, can't recall the exact date as in work).
When I was tracking through the BMD records and census returns, they seem to have settled in Wales from Ireland, mainly residing in the St Athan's area (not a million miles from Bonvilston I suppose) - there are loads of births and deaths in this sort of area, so there is probably a common connection down the line.
Obviously your relative is connected in the same way that mine is - funnily enough, mine was Edward Elward, who in turn had a son called Evan (surname always transcribed as Edward instead of Elward in every census return I have)
