Hi all,
Trying to make sure that my facts are correct, and see what I can add to what I know.
I have John Henderson, who was born June 15 1805 in Templepatrick, Down, Ireland. I believe his father is John Henderson. Mother's name is unknown.
He died August 18 1885, Knightswood Rows, Parish of New Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.
Could his mother's name/surname be found?
In hope,
TasG

First of all, Templepatrick's in Co. Antrim not Co. Down.
Birth registration in Ireland started in 1864 so for earlier dates you need to search for church records (if they exist) but to do so you need to know the family's religion and where they lived.

Try that again!
Templepatrick in Co. Antrim (Note: Don't trust everything sent through to you!)
His grandson was Presbyterian so that's as good as it gets.
Any takers?

If he died in Scotland does his death certificate not record parents' names?

Although Templepatrick parish and village is in Co Antrim, there is a Templepatrick in Donaghadee Parish, Co Down, between Donaghadee and Millisle. There is even an old graveyard there.
These are the likely churches to search if he was Presbyterian and from the Co Down Templepatrick:-
1st Presbyterian Church Donaghadee has baptism records from 1793 at PRONI ref MIC/1P/167
2nd Donaghadee (Shore St) - Ros Davies website says records from 1805, but Presbyterian Church website says only records from 1849 are in PRONI
Millisle Presbyterian baptisms from 1773 at PRONI ref MIC/1P/382 and 230/7
Ballycopeland Presbyterian baptisms from 1773 in Presbyterian Historical Society in Belfast (may be same as Ballycopeland - not sure)
There are also 2 Presbyterian Churches in Templepatrick, Co Antrim - one belonging to the mainstream church and one belonging to the Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church. Unfortunately I don't know the dates of their surviving records, although the mainstream records are in PRONI MIC/1P/325.
Hope this helps
