Hi there......I am looking for anyone dealing with their family tree that contains the surname Bones or Bownes from Maldon area...woodham Mortimer, Cock Clarkes Danbury etc......if anyone interested glad to chat
-
I was part of this family and started a tree.. .

Hi Lisa
Where do you fit into the Bones/Bownes tree ?
-
I was married to William Arthur Bownes 1 July 1995 to 23 March 2009. William was youngest son to Victor Charles Bownes and Jean Irene
-
William's Great Grandfather was my Great Grand Uncle. Did he ever mention or know why some Bones changed the spelling to Bownes ?
-
He said it was because people used to make fun of their family name Bones, so they put a "w" in it....I can't say for sure though x

Thanks had not heard that one before. If you are still doing your tree and need any assistance I would be pleased to help where I could.
