If anyone has access to the Thorncombe Parish records, I'd be very grateful for help with the following:
Ann Cook, bapt 14.04.1819 Thorncombe (info from IGI)
Parents Alexander Cook and Sarah
On IGI I have found 2 "Alexander Cooks":
1 bapt 20. 10.1776 Thorncombe, father Noah Cook, mother Hester.
1 bapt 23.05.1779 Thorncombe, father James.
I also found Alexander Cook, born circa 1779, Thorncombe, whose wife Sarah, born circa 1783, was buried 1849.
From this it appears as though my Alexander was the one born in 1779, father James.
I would be most grateful if someone with access to the records could take a look and see if there is any other info which might confirm this or help in any way - also if there is any record of any siblings of Ann.
Many thanks in advance.

At that time Thorncombe was part of Devon (I think it moved around the time of the first census). There is a couple in Thorncombe in 1841 that may be yours, but no sign of Ann:
HO107/201/12
Elexander Cook, 60+, Spinner?? of wool
Job Cook, 25+, weaver
Charles Cook, 15+, taylor?
George Cook, 14, taylor
Sarah Cook, 50+
Elizabeth, 20+,
Susan? Cook, 15+,
Sarah Cook, 15+ all born in county
This may be the Alexander Cook, 72, widower, who is living with his son Alexander, 34, in 1851.
Have you looked at the Dorset OPC site?

Hi Maria
Have only just seen your post so I'm sorry for the delay in replying.
Your James Cook married Mary Hussey on 8 April 1817 in Thorncombe. There was a James Cook baptised in Thorncombe on 24 Feb 1793, which could be him - parents James Cook and Betty.
I know that my Alexander Cook was born in 1779 and his father was James cook - no name for a mother.
There are various siblings for James Cook which I can let you have if you haven't already found them - however, I can't tell if Alexander and James are related, which is rather frustrating!
Hope this helps in some way.
Best wishes

Hi there
Thanks for your message ;D
The James Cook I have married to Mary Hussey states in the following census's:
1841c: Born: Not of the parish
1851c: Born: Not Known
1871c: Born: Salisbury, Wiltshire
So I'm uncertain of where he came from!!!
Thank you anyway I'll have to do some more searching!!
There does appear to be two James Cooks of similar ages as there are Death registrations:
Dec 1872 age:83
Jun 1878 age: 88
both are Axminster district I suppose I will have to send for both to determine which one is mine!!
Kind Regards
Maria
