My aunt also worked at Bishopton during WWII, the munitions factory was called the Royal Ordinance Factory, I think it is either still in existance or perhaps it closed a few years ago. There were other munition factories but my aunt did make the journey from Motherwell to Bishopton, a very long way by bus in those days, in black-out conditions too. She worked night-shift for the duration of the war I think.

There is mention here of the old Templeton Carpet factory being used as a munitions factory. I think Thistle Street was in the Garnethill area of Glasgow. Bishopton in Renfrewshire would have been a bit awkward to get to from Glasgow in war time

My mother worked in a munitions factory in Stevenson Ayrshire. She was a weaver, and wove the cordite dough into the webbing for the guns.  She left Glasgow each morning on a train that took the weavers to Stevenston.
