I am looking for information with regard to Clotworthy Dobbin Devitt, who was born in Dublin c.1787, he married Jane Burk at St Mary's Dublin on 01.10.1816. I only know of 2 children who both married in England Anna Maria born around 1823, she is stated on her marriage certificate as full age, Anna Maria married James Thomas Fewkes in Birmingham 10.11.1844 and John Furlong born 1824 who married Phillis Stubbs at Burton upon Trent 25.04.1845. Clotworthy Dobbin Devitt's father was James and a farmer. Clotworthy married for a second time in 07.06.1851 to a Jane Willats at Worthing his profession Gent, but resided in London and died there in 1874.
Unfortunately this is where I draw a blank and have no further information with regard to Dublin.
Clotworthy Dobbin Devitt was someone high up in the GPO Dublin and a petition was heard in the House of Lords 12th March 1846 with regard to his unfair dismissal, unfortunately, I have no further information with regard to this as the documentation at the House of Lords is missing. With this in mind he must have been in Dublin until around this date, are there any censuses for Dublin before this time.
I hope someone may have some information with regard to the unusual given names.
Regards
Maggie

Although this is an old enquiry, I too have followed this line and have a lot of information about the antecedents of Jane BUCK (not Burk) who died Dublin 1832 leaving 10 children, according to a newspaper report of her death. Let me know if this is still live and if we might exchange information. I am related to the Bucks.

Hi,
Although we are not the original persons who posted the enquiry about Clotworthy Dobbin Devitt we are interested in any additional information beyond that described by "Maggie2005", with whom I believe we are in contact by other means.
"Clotworthy Dobbin" himself was a Belfast brewer who produced an ale called "Cloworthy Dobbin" which is still available today, this rather confuses the issue! There may be a link. We would be interested in learning more about "Clotworthy Dobbin Devitt" and Jane Buck - Clotworthy is my friend's 3x great grandfather.

I would love further information with regard to Jane Buck, we had discovered that the name was Buck and not Burk and did know that there were 10 children, from Clotworthy's case that went to the House of Lords, but sadly not that Jane died in 1832. I have Alicia born 1831. I have only found 4 Devitt's who lived in the Midlands John Furlong 1824 Anna Maria 1823 Alicia 1831 and Walter Worthy 1832
I am really excited to hear from you. A cousin and myself have been research this family for years and this really seems to be a break through.
I don't visit RootsChat very often, so its amazing that I did today. My family tree is in Ancestry and another Devitt from my same line John Furlong has recently been in touch, so this has encouraged me to research some more, I was amazed at your reply and really look forward to hearing more
