I am doing a family tree for a lady who is 90 this weekend. As part of that I have downloaded a will from the National Archives and transcribed it and part reads as follows:-
Whereas for the promotion and advancement of my son George Pearson I
purchased for him a Majority in his Majesty’s 73rd Regiment of Infantry
and the purchased Majority with other sums waived I have advanced for
him have considerable exceeded what I calculate would be his equal
share of my property with my other children now I give unto my said son
George Pearson the sum of One Hundred Guineas and release him from
any sums he may be indebted to me
The will is dated 1813.
JCRed very kindly found me the following from the London Gazette
Sun (London, England), Tuesday, August 6, 1799
From the London Gazette July 27th 1799
War Office July 27th 1799
73rd reg Captain George Pearson from the 60th Foot to be Captain vice Power, who exchanges
and a couple of other mentions of an Ensign George Pearson in 1806 which I dont think would be the right George. I am trying to find any other details of "our" George and finding the London Gazette very daunting ???
Can anyone assist me with any further information out there on George please? I am afraid that I do not have a date of birth for him as Iyet
Many thanks
Jackie ;)

Hi Jackie
Here he is being promoted Major - http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/15993/pages/79
Plus:
London Gazette of 3 January 1797 –
He was an Ensign in the 49th Regiment and transferred to the 60th Regiment as Lieutenant, London Gazette of 3 January 1797 - http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/13968/pages/11
http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/13968/pages/11
Also – http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/15104/pages/116 - 2 February 1799,
And he became an Ensign in the 60th here - http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/13941/pages/974 - without purchase. The war with France was in full swing, and not enough officers were buying commissions.
Hope that helps. I am not sure but there may be one missing. You are correct, the George becoming an Ensisgn in 1807 is not him. He dies in 1810 I think.
