Could anyone please help me to find the marriage between two forebears:
William Smith (b abt 1811 Fiskerton)
Catherine ? (b abt 1811 Ireland)
They are both living together in Nottingham on the 1841 where Wm is a whitesmith and their oldest child is 6. I presume they were married around 1830.
Very excited to discover some Irish ancestry at last. Could anyone help me please?
PS Does anyone know what a Brace Maker is, as this was Catherine's profession on the 1851.
Kind Regards Toz

Hi
PS Does anyone know what a Brace Maker is, as this was Catherine's profession on the 1851.
Her occupation looks more like brass maker to me

Hi Toz
There are 3 listed on the Notts FHS marriage disc that fit with the date.
William Smith married Catherine Walker 4.3.1838 at Bunny
Catherine Coulton 8.7.1836 at Snienton
Catherine Simpson 14.5.1827 Kingston upon Soar
Hope this helps

Hello again
I noticed on some of the baptisms for William Smith & Catherine that the mothers maiden name is mentioned. If you give me a list of all their children and addresses that you know of, I will see if I can eliminate the marriages.

Thank you very much Carol, for the offer. Here are the two census returns that show children and addresses.
1841 Pierrpoint St (St Mary's parish) Nottingham
William Smith 30 whitesmith b Notts
Catherine Smith 30 b Ireland
Eliza Smith 6 b Notts
Catherine Smith 4 b Notts
Mary Smith 2 b Notts
Joseph Smith 4 days b Notts
1851 Park St, Lenton
William Smith 42 smith b Fiskerton Notts
Catherine Smith 40 Brace Maker b Ireland
Catherine Smith 16 Cotton doubler b Radford Notts
Mary Smith 12 Scholar b Lenton
Joseph Smith 9 b Nottingham
Samuel Smith 7 b Nottingham
William Smith 2 b Nottingham [Radford]
(Quite excited as I had always assumed my Smith side was from Birmingham and that I was in needle-in-haystack territory..but instead it seems like they are the "Smiths of Fiskerton" which makes it a little easier to contemplate (and it's not far from where I live!). Plus an unexpected Celtic ancestor when none of my branches had, until now, gotten out of the Midlands. All good fun).
Thanks again for looking. Any Lincs stuff I can do at LAO for you, let me know. Toz

My goodness. How interesting! Thank you so much. I wonder if Catherine Connell and Coulton could be one and the same..or is that wishful thinking...?
Lots to think about now. Well done you. Many many thanks Toz

Hi Toz
I was thinking the same. It is only a transcription so it was just how someone else read it. The original records will have to be checked to make sure.
