Title: Warings from Waringstown...emigrants to Canada.
Post by: toejamie on Monday 20 July 09 20:38 BST (UK)
Hi all,

I am looking for more information on my forebears, who apparently came from the Waringstown area. Two brothers (dates approx):

1) James Waring (b. 1820) - emigrated to Canada <1843
2) Henry Waring - stayed in Ireland, his children emigrated 1870-1880.
Margaret Jane (1840), Mary Ann (1844), *John (1848), James (1849; likely emigrated 1880 with wife Bessie and son Henry), Elizabeth (1856), Alexander (?, stayed in Ireland).

*Family lore states asked Lord Waring permission to leave and received some money. Will also visit Ireland soon, research tips greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have you checked out the other post on this board by 'Mr Green'? It may be of use to contact him.
I live within a few mile from Waringstown so if I can help in the meantime let me know.
Regards, Aljepeka

Thanks, I read that post carefully. Although I didn't recognize anything, he seems to know that family of that time well so I will try to make contact.

Thanks for your kind offer...I leave for Ireland soon so if you have any tips or suggestions where to look first (in Waringstown or elsewhere) I'd be grateful. The family appears to be Anglican. We've kept the Waring family name so perhaps it will earn me goodwill in town!

The Warings were a very wealthy family, and they have their own enclosed burial ground in Waringstown Church of Ireland graveyard. To the best of my knowledge their descandants still occupy Waringstown House in the village. Try the library in Waringstown for more info 02838881077.

Thanks very much Otto! I am leaving for Ireland Saturday and so will visit the Church. So far no luck in any of the searchable indexes. I am beginning to presume my ancestors were a not wealthy sept of the family as they emigrated en masse and didn't appear to hold any land, but hopefully I can still find something there.
