Am desperate for some help here with Reginald, dosn't seem to exist before his marriage in 1929.
What I have is
Apparently arrived in Australia from England in 1925, Married Effie Pomfret in 1929 at Christ Church Cathedral, Newcastle, NSW . Certificate states he is a press photographer.. Gives his birth as 1902 England. parents as Charles Edward Russell, Carpenter & Georgina Mary Smith.
Could anyone possibly have a look to see when and where he came from for me please.
Cheers

A look at the family on the 1911 census would certainly help you. I don't have access to the 1911 census.

I only have access to the index for 1911
The family appears to be in Prestwich, Lancs in 1911.
I assume you have later information?
Ryerson's index shows a death notice 8 Dec 1956 for Reginald Courtenay RUSSELL with death date 4 Dec

Oh you guys are so fantastic, have been searching for years and just couldn't put it together.
Marriage cert has him aged 27 in 1929 so making his birth year 1902. Showing parents as Charles Russell, carpenter dec & Georgina Mary Smith dec
Death Cert in 1956 makes his birth year 1903. unfortunately it dosn't show parents name on that.
Had a fresh look at the marriage cert and it does say London England, I had no idea that he served in the war so a new avenue to look at now.
YAY judb & cando
great work, it pays to get the help of an extra set of eyes ;D ;D ;D
Thanks for taking the time to do the look ups, much appreciated

I wonder if Reginald M shown on the census had died and your Reginald was named after him. Parents tended to do that years ago. Of course it may not be his family on the census as they were still in Lancashire in 1911.
If you wished you could purchase his birth cert
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
If you didn't wish to purchase his service record there is a little more info on him at...rank at discharge and unit etc.

Reginald M does show on the 1911 census as 15 yrs in Lancs also a Constance Georgina b. 1905. parents Charles & Georgina
I don't have access to the 1911 but, I have a feeling that this is not the family, I'm sure they wouldn't name two boys the same especially if one is still alive.
Reginald C noted his father as a carpenter, Effies father was also a carpenter.
There is a Charles Russell in the 1901 census who is a married lodger in Dorset who's occupation is a carpenter, but how does one find the rest of the family?????

Yes I also had my doubts when the family were still in Lancashire in 1911.
I found when doing my research in the UK and couldn't find family on the census I really had no choice but to purchase some certificates. Unfortunately there is nowhere near the information on the UK certificates as some of the Australian ones.
Really can't progress until you know the correct parents names or can find their marriage with the names as given on Reginald's marriage cert. The names may not be correct on Reginald's marriage cert.

The parents marriage may have taken place post the 1901 census.

Have sent for WW2 file through NAA may take up to 90 days as the file isn't open, will recieve all files and certificate in a binder according to the site, dosn't say what would be included in the paperwork, hopefully a bit more information on where he came from & when.
Indulged myself to a few credits on findmypast but no luck so far, the family just don't want to be found.
Is a possibility he didn't know his mothers surname.

It won't give you anything about his past life ie before enlistment other than when born place of birth, occupation and any previous military experience. It is a record of his war service.
I agree I doubt he knew his mother's surname...he may have been illegitimate :-\
The birth cert is probably the only way to find out.

Might have to wait till next week to order cert, think I've spent enough money today.
Do you know of any way in which I can find out about His being a photo Journalist/press photographer.
His son remembers him saying he covered the big floods in Newcastle I think,
He lived at the Carlton Hotel in Scott street at the time.

Yes it is easy to get carried away when you are researching :-[ :-[
Not at all knowledgeable about press photographers/journalists. I suppose they may have some sort of association. Honestly have no idea. Perhaps some other chatter can help here.
Doesn't the son know anything about Reginald C's parents?
