Hello
The above is a distant relative of my brother in law.
Apparently he was an Inspector in the Glasgow Police, killed and by a prisoner in cells. That's all that has been handed down.
Any help or pointers where further info can be gleaned would be much appreciated.
He was married to Catherine Burns, he was also know as Jeremiah.
Closed - he died on the above date - but not killed. Downloaded death entry from SP.
Regards, Steve :O)

The Archives at the Mitchell Library hold the service records for the City of Glasgow police force.
You will be able to track his service & conduct from when he was sworn in as a constable until he left the service / died in service.
If your lucky they may have an photograph of him within his file

Thanks for the input - sancti and yokerbrian.....
Sue, Just spoken to my sister who is now into FH in a big way. She has photo/s of Darby Byrne and a copy of their wedding cert + other info. You have to post I believe 3 times before you can use the pm system. If you do that I can pm my sisters e-mail address and she's obviously waiting to get in touch..
Regards, Steve

Hi
I am new to this site and only joined as I saw your posting about Jeremiah Darby Byrne. I wondered how you got on with researching him. He is a relation of mine and I have his police record from the Mitchell library. I am trying to find out more about him if you can help in anyway I would be grateful.

Hi, Welcome. Someone contacted me and sent me a photo of him. I would be interested in seeing anything you have and am happy to send on the photo I have and the bits of info I have managed to find. He was my paternal great grandfather. I have found him in the 1901 & 1911 censuses. Send me a private message with your email and I can send on the photo etc.
Regards
Sue

I can't add anything to this topic but it is interesting to find out that someone else has a "Darby" who was really Jeremiah. I have a Darby Flynn, born in Co Mayo, Ireland and I had always assumed that it was his given name - it's on his death certificate and all the census returns but on his son's marriage certificate he is Jeremiah.
Does anyone know what the connection between the two names is?
