Hi , Do you have any of the children's birth certificates that will give you the Mother's maiden name?
I found John St Clair Barrett's birth on freebmd born March Qtr 1907 Bucklow vol 8a page 187.
Or you can order the certificate on the cheshire bmd site, here is the link
http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/cgi/birthind.cgi
What was John's occupation on the 1911 census.
Best regards
Cathy

Hi
On Free BMD the births for John St Clair Barrett and a George Barrett are registered in Bucklow.
In 1914 there's also a birth for Louisa Barrett registered in Bucklow. Her mother's maiden name is Riley.
The only marriage I could find for a John Barrett to a Louisa is -
John Barrett to Louisa Riley in 1905 in Chorlton.
Although this marriage is in Lancashire it could be a possibility.
Good Luck

Hi AMK,
I just happened to find some old paperwork I had in my 'family' box of bits and pieces and came across a John St Clair Barrett (dec) newspaper death certificate at age 26 in Sale England. I wondered what relationship he had to George and googled the name and came across ROOTS.
I also read questions about Louisa (or Louie) and George Barrett. They were relatives of mine (by marriage) in Australia and thats why I have the paperwork.
Long story short - I have the newspaper cuttings of John St Clair Barrett's funeral in Sale and that of John Barrett, 52yrs, of 18 Southern Rd Sale (ex POW from WW1) and George Barrett (dec 1993 at age 85, ex POW WW2). His wife Evangeline died at 97 in 2011.
Louisa Barrett b. 17/04/1914, never married, was a teacher here and became a nun in 1967 in Australia (dec). I have her original birth certificate. I also have George and Eva's wedding invitation to 'Louie'.
I have 15 postcards sent by Georges father, John, while a POW in WW1, to Esther Riley and would love to know who she was. She is mentioned in the newspaper cutting of the funerals of J.S.C.Barrett and the other John. Was John St Clair George's brother, uncle or grandfather? I can't figure that one out. The family spoke very little of those they left in England when George transferred to Australia to continue to work in the Defence Forces after the war. They had 2 sons - Michael in 1946 in England (dec within days of birth) and Anthony in 1950 in Aust.
I also have the telegram (26/05/1943) sent to Eva when George went MIA, and further letters from the Air Force explaining he had survived. He spent years moving around to various POW camps and I only have one letter from his to Eva dated 2nd June 1943. The Air Force were still sending her letters about his disappearance in July of that year, so his letter took a while to get to Eva, his wife, in Dargyle Rd, Sale Cheshire.
I wrote to Mrs Heywood (Eva's mother) for many years and also her sister-in-law Flo after Eva found it difficult to type her own correspondence.
I hope you read this and find this helpful. I would love to hear from you, especially if you are related, since there are many Barretts related to this family here in Australia.
3 grandkids to George and Eva and 4 greatgrandkids - 2 more on the way.
Regards wendox

BY THE WAY GEORGE BARRETT WAS BORN MAY 19, 1908. LOUISA 17 APRIL, 1914.
JUST REALISED IF 'RILEY' WAS GEORGE AND LOUISA'S MOTHERS' MAIDEN NAME, THEREFORE THE LETTERS SENT BY JOHN BARRETT WHILE A POW OF WW1 MUST BE TO AN AUNT BECAUSE SHE WAS STILL A 'MISS RILEY' AND IF SHE HAD MARRIED THEIR GRANDFATHER SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN A 'MRS' . REGARDS WENDOX

Thanks for the message. I was still wondering about him and trying to figure out where the John St Clair fitted in, was he Reg's father??? And I'm still a bit confused about the Miss Esther Riley. Any thoughts. Is this a Barrett reunion you're due to have and are you a Barrett? Thanks wendox
