Here is a photo of my Great Grandfather William Foster taken approx. 1910/11 We are intrigued by the adornment on the lefthand side of his jacket, could these be medals? It looks like he has them hooked up with cord through his buttonhole!! He also seems to have some sort of pin on the knot of his tie. He was born in 1835 and married in 1854. He is not missing from any census returns and as far as we know he was a labourer all his life Mistyrose41

If you cannot do a scan at a higher resolution you will struggle to get an answer. A good rule of thumb is that a file of at least 150 Kb is required.

Hello Ken,
Thank you for replying. I have tried to enhance the photo but it still isn't any clearer. What I think we have is; A badge/medal worn on the left breast. I seems to consist of a bar clasp with a small knob at each end topped in the middle with an ornament [perhaps a crown]. Suspended from this is a fairly short ribbon consisting of three stripes [A dark stripes either side of a lighter stripe in the middle].
Then it looks like a series of 2 or maybe 3 discs, the end one being the larger. These he seems to have hooked up with what looks like a cord or chain around the lapel of his jacket. Then there is the pin on the knot of his tie. Seems to me an unusual place to wear a Tie Pin. This I think is possibly an oval disc with an inverted comma shape design on the right hand side. Sorry this is the best I can do.
