Title: Jackson - East Halton
Post by: linnet27 on Saturday 11 July 09 20:32 BST (UK)
Hi

I wonder if anyone could help.  I am trying to sort out my Mum's family and have discovered that her Grandmother was Maria Elizabeth Jackson, born in Scawby in 1860 and married to John Thorpe born 1861 in Blyth, Notts.  I think Maria's parents were John Jackson, 1829 East Halton and Mary Tomlinson 1836 Wrawby. I then come unstuck as there seem to be several Jacksons in East Halton around 1800.

Does anyone have access to parish registers, or could you suggest where I should turn next?

Thanks!

Hi linnet27

I presume you have the following marriage , which will give you the father's names and occupations and Maria Elizabeth's birth, which gives you her mother's maiden name as you state you believe it is John Jackson & Mary Tomlinson. You can then check the following 1841 censuses to see if the father's names are the same.

Also do you have the Censuses? John & Mary are married in the following if you want the full transcription let me know.

Hi Wendy

Thanks for all the information.  I will sit and digest it!

I am surprised, as I had no record of a Robert Jackson, and I also have John's death about 1876, so I obviously got that one wrong!!

Hi

I have found this, her age is different, maybe more likely as she seemed quite old to have an 8 year old in the 1851 census and she was a Widow then too.

1861 census for East Halton for Kettle Bridge Farm, East Halton

Elizabeth Jackson    61 Head Widow b East Halton
Robert H Jackson    5 Grandson
William Bradshaw    57 Lodger
RG9 Piece 2402 Folio 77 Page 20

You will certainly have to confirm the info to make sure I have the correct families. I do hope so.

Which John did you have dying in 1876, John Junior?

Let me know if you need anything else

Wendy

Wow!  Just went for a quick walk round the garden and you have found all this.

I thought the death was John senior
Name:    John Jackson
Birth:    abt 1799
Death:    Sep 1876 - Glanford Brigg, Lincolnshire

but if Elizabeth is a widow in 1871, it can't be the right John.

There were 2 John JACKSON burials at East Halton in the 1840s ... both would have been correctly given as "aged 45" in 1841 ... both are given on FreeREG.

29 June 1842 (46)
4 Feb 1847 (54)

The Elizabeth JACKSON (90) in 1890 was buried at Barton on Humber.

Can anyone see the marriage of John snr and Elizabeth.  I presume about 1825/6.  The census states that she was also born in East Halton, so it would be interesting to know her maiden name., whilst searching EH records.

This is quite an old post and I believe linnet27 already found the answer, but in case anyone else is searching later, Elizabeth Jackson was born Elizabeth Elston. The marriage record with John Jackson is available from Lincstothepast (https://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=718696&iid=210730 (https://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=718696&iid=210730)) in the East Halton parish marriage register, 18 Jan 1820.

I'd love to hear from anyone else related to this family.
