Hello and a warm welcome to Rootschat :)
Boag is a Scottish surname - if you've drawn a blank in Newcastle, have you looked for him north of the border?

I've noticed boags and robinsons. I'll go for it and see what happens.

James Boag is a well known beer here in Oz! I think it's brewed in Tasmania. I wonder if there's any connection to yours?

hi
My grandad always wondered. I've seen the Boag beer in Newcastle Upon Tyne England. Thought someone was taking the mick when I worked in a pub years ago. I will check out that one as well. My history is hopeless now I think Australia was inhabited by Europeans then (late 1600 -1700).
thanks

Also my James Boag was a captain in the merchant navy so it is possible that he settled in england. Ooo good one never thought of that.
