Is anyone researching CAUDWELL family in the Egmanton area ?
-
Hi,
William Caudwell & Elizabeth Hooton of Egmanton are my 4x great grandparents.
Are you also a descendent.

I have an Ester Caudwell born in Laxton circa 1803. (Info from various censuses) Its a mile away from Egmanton.
She married George Smith at Weston in 1827

Hi,
I have information on Esther (spelling variable) Caudwell. She was baptised at Laxton 2 April 1804, daughter of Francis Caudwell and Elizabeth Cliffen, and, as far as I know, had 1 brother and 6 sisters. I am related to William Caudwell who lived in Egmanton, born c. 1777, but have not been able to make the connection with ancesters beyond that. There were Caudwells in Laxton and Egmanton at that time.

Thanks
A couple of questions arising
What church were the records from?
Do you know if Francis and William Caudwell were brothers?
-
Hi Andrew,
The information on Esther came from microfiche copies of the Laxton Parish Records held at the Nottinghamshire Archives.
Francis did have a brother, William, who was born in Egmanton in 1746. I think that this William, his brother Robert (1747), or his brother Richard (1750) are likely to be the father of my ancestor, William Caudwell (1777).
So far, I haven't been able to find any record of William's (1777) birth or death. All I know is that he was a Carpenter in Egmanton and was 21 years old when he married Elizabeth Hooton on 12 May 1798 at Normanton-on-Trent.
Best regards,
Geof
