Hi,
I just wondered if someone could help me...
My Great Grandmother was Catherine Mitchinson..I know about her marriage and children.
But I have been looking into her Parents and siblings. The trouble is when I put details of who I think her Mother may be, I mainly get America details.
Catherine was born 1876...
and married at Middlebrough..(to G Baldam)..I am not sure where she was born.
I used to have a peice of paper with a few things written on it..But I cant find it anywhere.
Her Mum may have been Prudence, Please can someone tell me what you think,
Thanks so much
Christine

I am so utterly shocked at that info...My goodness me..
I live in Hereford...

There is a family tree on Ancestry with Catherine Mitchinson born 1876 Middlesborough, having the parents William and Prudence Pine.
I don't know where they got the Pine from - proceed with caution on that one
-
This is a possibility for Prudence seniors birth/parents
PRUDENCE TOMPKINS Christening: 12 JUN 1814 Dilwyn, Hereford Father: JOSEPH TOMPKINS Mother: MARY
I don't know whether Webley/Dilwyn are in the same locality
-
Dear CaroleW...Please can I borrow you for a week. Weobley is about 12 miles from me, and Dilwyn mabey little further...
What a strange feeling this is!!!!!!!.
I am full honestly.
Thankyou very very much

In 1861 - Prudence Davis was aged 18 and working as a servant for the Berrick family in Birmingham
RG9 Piece 2136 Folio 98 Page 60
Mum Prudence died 1852
Prudence Davies December qtr 1852 Birmingham Volume: 6d
Page: 23
Little brother Edward is in the Birmingham Bluecoat School aged 13 and as I can't find dad Edward in 1861 - suspect he also died pre-1861
-
This is a submitted IGI entry so I always advise caution as submitted entries are often unreliable (like the Prudence Pine entry)
EDWARD DAVIES Christening: 11 NOV 1810 Brimfield, Hereford Father: GEORGE DAVIES Mother: MARY
1841 for Birmingham - only daughter Mary was b Warwickshire
Edward Davis 30
Prudence 25
Mary 1
Thomas Davis 20
James Davis 25
HO107 Piece 1142/4 Folio 12 Page 16
There was also a family called Washborn at the same address but the 1841 does not show relationships
Thomas Davis was with Edward & Prudence in 1851 as brother so I would reckon James is another brother
These are both extracted records so have been taken from the original entry
JAMES DAVIES Christening: 16 FEB 1817 Brimfield, Hereford, Father: GEORGE DAVIES Mother: MARY
THOMAS DAVIES Christening: 09 APR 1815 Brimfield, Hereford Father: GEORGE DAVIES Mother: MARY

I never expected,to be helped in such a way as you have helped me.
What you have done for me is just so utterly brilliant..You are amazing.
I cant stop reading it all. I cant wait to show my Mum all this when I go up to Durham next month.
Thankyou for all the time and effort you have put into it,
It really has touched me,
Thankyou millions

This is where we get onto uncertain ground with William Mitchinson
His birthyear varies slightly between 1842-1845 but his birthplace is consistently Middlesborough
There is no William Mitchinson b around those years in Middlesborough on the 1851 census
There is an 1851 entry for a William Mitcheson aged 9 living with grandparents surname Blinkhorne but he was born in Osmotherley Yorks
There is a William Mitchinson aged 7 born in Whorlton parents John (a blacksmith) & Elizabeth. He is still at home in 1861 and birthplace is shown as Swainby Yorks
I've tried just searching on William b Middlesborough but no joy
I think you are going to need a copy of the 1869 marriage cert to find his fathers name and occupation
-
This is brilliant Carole, Gosh I havent ordered such an old cert before,I am so intrigued what it will say,
I will go to bed tonight with a big smile on my face..
Thankyou
Chrissie

Morning Carole,
I have just looked at what you have done...I cant close my jaw!!!its dropped so much.
How you have done all that is just beyond me, Its going to take me ages to digest it all, But I love it!!. Gosh dident they travel,
What I cant quite get my head around is the name Pearson?
When my Great grandmother Catherine Mitchinson married in 1898,
It was to George Pearson Baldam...
Going to make a coffee and have a good read of all your amazing work,
From the bottom of my heart
Thankyou
Chrissie
-
I wondered about the Pearson name as well so I did a search for any other Mitchinson/Baldam marriages but there was only the 1898 one.
By the way - you don't need that 1869 marriage cert now that we know who Williams parents were
-
Hi Carole,
Its just starting to sink in....So much info, Gosh your so quick.
I wonder if they were related in some way...been digging through all my old paperwork I have on the Baldams.
Hope you have a lovely weekend,I will never ever forget what you have done for me.
Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou

Hello CaroleW,
Hope your weekend went well !
This info is brilliant...and Lincolnshire..how strange again,Thats where my OH family come from.
So many different spellings of Baldam too, no wonder its been so hard.
Its wonderfull to be able to look at all this, and try and see what their lives must have been like.
Thankyou Carole, you have been marvelous to me...
1913 Charles is my Grandmothers Brother....He was a witness at her Wedding.
No one has been able to find the birth of her, This is the lady I told you about that others tried to help with...Someone said she might have been born a different name.
My Grandmother was Isabella Baldam born 1912 ? but definately Nov .died 1968 ....first quarter
Thankyou very very much
Chrissie
-
Hi Chrissie
Saw her marriage and she was Isabella N Liddle when she died - can you confirm I have the right surname
If she was born in November and was 64 when she died in the March qtr of 1968 (as per death reg) that gives a birthyear of November 1913 which does not tie in with Charles born the same year
If you are sure she was b 1912 then he age on her death reg is wrong
Do you know whether she was b Middlesborough or Sedgefield
-
HI Chrissie,
although your post was a few years ago, it came up on a recent web search.
I am a descendent of Pearson Mitchinson (b 1813 Newcastle, Gateshead, Durham; baptised 1815 www.familysearch.org Indexing Project (Batch) Number:P00059-2 System Origin:England-ODM Source Film Number:252785). He is my great x3 grandfather.
Your search has probably moved on by now. However I have lot of information about those particular Mitchinsons, including the Canongate/Edinburgh ones (that I am directly descended from) that I would be happy to share - if you still want it. Just let me know.
I haven't found very much on the generation before (Jacob Mitchinson and Sarah Thompson in Gateshead, Durham) - in case you have, I'd love to know more about them.
Best Wishes, Susan
-
Hello Susan...
Thank you for contacting me, I have traced my Mitchinsons back to Edinburgh...Its been sometime since I have done my family tree, but would love to talk more
Best wishes

I have just joined RootsChat and saw this thread.
I know a lot about the origins of these MITCHINSONs. They originally came from Cumberland and were Quakers. I have an extensive family tree for the earlier generations. However, they are not (as far as I know) related to my husband.
If you are interested, please send me a message with your email address, and I can email you the tree that I compiled many years ago.
