Good morning
Please would anyone be able to tell me where the nearest Church of England would have been to Manor Crescent, Brighton in 1944/45?
I am trying to locate a baptism and so would anyone know if baptisms are searchable for the years 1944/45 please?
Many thanks

Morning
if you go to google maps and put in Manor Crescent Brighton it should show you a map of this area if you then type in the box where it says - search nearby
if you type in churches
it should give you a whole list and you can see which one is closest to Manor Crescent it also gives you telephone no.s

Hi Toni
Thanks for your reply. I did that earlier and came up with Manor Road, Manor Hill and Manor Way but not Manor Crescent - I wonder if it still exists or if it was near these roads?
Kind regards
-
yes Manor Crescent still exists it somes up when i type it in google maps if you zoom in the name of the smaller roads will come up,
it is a crescent shape off the southern end of Manor Hill - the pin point should be right on it.

Hi Toni
Thanks for looking, I'll have another try.
Many thanks

Just did a search for Manor Crescent on www.streetmap.co.uk and on their map it's shown simply as "M.C." !

Hello Cranstone,
I wonder the name of the person you are seeking?
There are parish registers in the Record Office in Lewes. Also, there is an archive for Brighton itself in the Museum in Brighton. The latter has parish registers on microfilm and for all the churches in Brighton. I know they do a research service and it might be worth an enquiry.

Hello again,
A quick look reveals there are many churches in that area today. The likelihood is that there were others around there years ago. I know the problem as I am having this with my relatives from Brighton. Needle and haystack come to mind.

St Marks Church Eastern Road - think it now belongs to Brighton College
St Georges St Georges Road
On the Whitehawk Estate St Cuthmans
Catholic
St John the Baptist
Hope this helps

Good morning,
Yes, no 9 still exists, it's a while since iv'e been round there so don't remember which it is and can't focus on the no's with street view. I can tell you that no 2 is first on the right hand side.

Someone else has been searching for information on the lady you are interested in on Rootschat Canada.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,22294.0.html
The parents seem to have married in Surrey in 1943, but FreeBMD does not appear to have a UK record of Valerie's birth under the combination of names you have for her. As her past may be a little 'uncertain' perhaps a private message to the other Rootschatter off list would be advisable.
By the way, by 1949, number 9 Manor Crescent was lived in by a Mrs Moore (info from Btn street directory)
