Title: Frederick James BOHM 1879-1938 NSW
Post by: billbir on Tuesday 07 July 09 19:38 BST (UK)
I have just discovered that the above ( part of my Family Research) enlisted in Sydney, NSW on 14 August 1914. At that time his wife Alice J L Bohm was still living back in London, England with her children. It appears that he returned back to Australia in 1916 and died in 1938 being buried at Rookwood Crematorium, NSW. It is therefore reasonable to surmise that the family must have emigrated to Australia, probably after the end of the 1914-18 war. There are no records of any of them in the UK. I would very much like to know what happened to them in Australia and whether there are any living relatives.

Any help would be much appreciated.

There is no record of a headstone listed for any of the BOHM's at Rookwood however I wonder if the  records include plaques at the crematorium.

I would suggest you search just using BOHM on the Ryerson Index.  Link on reply#3 by Sue.

On the left of the home page there is a link to a lookup request form.  Copies of the requested death notices are emailed to you.  All done by volunteers.

By  the WW1 record  the  family  of Frederick James Bohm  must have returned to England at some point as  he has his wife's address showing as England.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much!! I have turned on my laptop to be greeted by a cornucopia of information. I am like a kid in a sweetshop, not knowing where to start. I need to get the information on my system so that I can start to see the wood for the trees. This family is a real mystery, as originally, I thought they had possibly emigrated to Canada. Now I find it is Australia. Also why were the wife and 2 children going to South Africa, without the husband, but he must have turned up there sometime, as 2 of her children were born there.

Why did the husband join the military in Australia when he could have stayed with his family in England and join up there. Still a lot to discover! How can I find out whether any of the marriages, produced children? I would like to know if the name 'Leigh' has continued.

Thanks again for your considerable help.
