Hi, Thomas Claydon Baldwin born 04/01/1843 in Essex died on 21 Aug 1919 at 13 Lofthouse Place Leeds. He was my greatgrandfather. He died suddenly and there was an inquest but unfortunatly the inquest records were destroyed. Does anyone know if the report would have been published in the local newspaper and if so which one and how one could access them?
I have no idea why he was in Leeds unless it was army related he had been a regular soldier and had lost touch with his children, I have not been able to find him in 1901 or in 1911.

Hi
Have you looked at his army records to see where he was serving in 1901 - possibly Boer war? When did he retire from the army? You may get an address from his pension papers.
Have a look at www.genuki.org.uk as the links on there usually show local papers.

Hi rushton,
As you have the exact date of death, maybe you could try asking the Leeds Library if they have archived local papers from that period and if these papers carry a report of the Inquest.
Worth a try :D

This could be him in 1911:
THOMAS CLAYDON BOLDWIN, born 1843 Maldon, living Leeds, West Riding Yorks.

Hi Andrea, Charlotte and Ivan, Thanks ever so much , I will get onto those suggestions. The archives for Leeds are in Wakefield I contacted them and they told me inquest reports were not kept from that period, but I will try Leeds Library to see if they keep historical newspapers.
Thanks Ivan you have found him for me! :) :)
