Hi,
I would be extremely grateful if there is anyone that could look up my great grandmother Florence Eliza Fisher on the 1891 census?
I have her on the 1901 census as 36 and born Cambs, however when married in Fulham in 1892 she is stated as 20. Her Father is George and is a labourer.
I can find no record of her birth which match either dates and cannot find her on the 1881.
Can anyone help?
I thought if I had a listing on the 1891 it might give me a bit more information to work from.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Many thanks! Jackie

Hi Jackie,
Have spent quite a bit of time looking for your elusive Florence Eliza Fisher without success. I presume she married George Cheshire in 1892 Copyright Editor Comment - Information quoted from Ancestry's transcriptions deleted for copyright reasons - see http://www.rootschat.com/forum/copyright.php
Who are the witnesses on her marriage certificate -sometimes that gives a clue.
I have looked through several years on 1837online but the only Florence Fisher in Cambridge is Sep qtr 1868 Caxton 3b 468.
There is a Florence Eliza born June 1871 but that's in Docking.
How old is George on the Wedding certificate ? Could be she was lodging with him
in 1891 and name has been incorrectly trancribed

Hi Sandra,
on the marriage certificate George Cheshire is 28 a bricklayer whose father is also George. The addresses given for both George and Florence is the same, 4 Elysium cottages, Fulham. I thought this was a bit strange!
The witnesses are James Driver and Florence Godfrey.
I am so stuck with this, so any help would be appreciated!
Thank you so far!

Jackie,
Calalguidi is right about 4, Elysium Cottages, Fulham - but no sign of Florence.
What is strange though is there is a James Driver from Cambridge on the 1891 Census and his neighbours have been transcribed as Lisher but when you look at the original image it is clearly Fisher BUT not George or Florence - seems strange co-incidence though.
Will carry on looking

Hi,
As you say Florence seems elusive!
Really appreciate your help and if you are able to keep looking that's great!
Many thanks! Jackie

Hi
I recently started looking again for my Florence Eliza and found on Ancestry a reference to her as being born Knapp?
This is what a member has written about her and her marriage to George Cheshire;
Marriage to George Cheshire
1892 3 Dec — Age: 21
All Saints church, Hammersmith & Fulham, England
Witnesses are James Driver (He is a witness on the next marriage on that day) Florence Godfrey, George's cousin. Florence was born Knapp but her Dad died when she was 2 and was raised by Thomas Godfrey, her Mom's second husband, she married William Byrne
I have tried to contact the member to ask how they have this information but have had no reply.
Can anyone help/ shed some light on this?
Many thanks

Just sent you an email. Florence Eliza Fisher is the Great Great Grand Aunt of my friend Stephanie. Her 3x Grandmother was George Cheshire's half sister Ada Elizabeth. Ada married William Knapp then Thomas Godfrey. She had a daughter Florence Ada Knapp (who married William Byrne). It's this Florence who is on the cert. as a witness. That was Stephanie's Great Grandmother. I think that it was Stephanie you were trying to contact. Too many Florences ;D

The note seems to be talking about Florence Godfrey the witness, rather than Florence the bride, I think?

Hi, I have realised that I was thinking about the wrong Florence, silly me! Gail, do you have any other info on who George was married to previously? I was always told that Florence Eliza was French, any other info that you have would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks all!

No Florence Eliza wasn't French. She was born in Cambridge. Her mother was from Norfolk and father was from Suffolk. I wonder why you were told she was French? As far as Steph knows George Cheshire was not married before Florence.
