McCLaid or possibly McGlaid?, though the C in Convery has the same curl.

Hi there :D thank you for getting back to me so soon. I had though that it said Mc Claid myself but when i do a search on Emerald Ancestors for Mc Claid it comes up with nothing ???
-
I have just tried searching www.irishsurnames.com and there is no Mc Claid there as well ???
This is what is making me think it might not be Mc Claid.
-
I don't think the capital letter after the Mc is a "C' but can't decide what it might be ::)

I think it may well be McGlaid. It may just be a case of a name written incorrectly on some documents. I have found this to be so when tracing my family.
If you look at:
www.ifhf.brsgenealogy.com/
& do a search of all Irish counties you will find some McGlaids & McGlades. Hope this helps!!

Could be Mc CLARD? possibly our eyes are seeing a dot of an i, which is actually the top of an r obsured by the y tail of Convery?
Cheers

It could be McCloud, if the first upright of the 'u' is written so close to the 'o' that it makes the 'o' look lke an 'a'.
But looking at the C of the other name, I think the capital after the Mc is also a 'C'.
But who knows?
What else can you find about this person? Is there a witness on a marraige, or a maiden name on a childs birth cert, or another reference to them elsewhere which might give a clue
-
There is a dot there near that tail of the y.. The tail of the y and the second last letter of the bottom line merge which is unfortunate.
lizdb's suggestion of looking to see if there is any other clue seems a good way to try, if that's possible.

Hi there
I have searched for McGlaid on the site that I mentioned previously & there are a few, plus variants on the name. There is a marriage record of a Francis Convery & Mary Maglade in 1876 in Co Down. But, of course, this may not be them!
-
Their son James was born in 1874 so im not to sure if that is them. It so frustrating >:( >:(
-
There's a listing for James Convery on that site b 1873 in Co Antrim. So that could be him. It should give parents details there. Another way to get more info is to look at the 1881 Scottish census. I can see a household there with a Francis Convery and there's a Mary in the household. This will also give their ages & where they originate from.
Just trying to help you out! Maybe you've already looked at all this!

Just a thought .Could it possibly be McLeland?
