Hi Joe,
Welcome to RootsChat,
I presume that you have the 1861 census at 85 Rose Place, Liverpool (sharing a house with William and Mary A. Edwards and family) that fits your description of Laurence and Catherine but there are no children with them.
RG9:2650:F111:P49
[Oops sorry, wrong ref, I think it should be RG9:2650:F111:P1, page number was missing so I calculated from prev. page but later numbers suggest a new book started here]

Yes Thank you Dudley i have them in the Lancashire 1861 & 1871 cENSUSES.
pOSSIBLY cATHERINE & ANY other children are out on their own. joe

If the 1871 is the one in Manchester, still no evidence of any children.
RG10:4052:F62:P49
There were at least three or four Laurence and Catherine Byrnes having children in Dublin in the 1860s (if you look at the IGI on the FamilySearch site), so what makes you think that this couple are the parents of your Catherine?
Do you have any other documents that link one or other of these census addresses to the daughter?

Thanks Dudley! Catherine the mother (misspelt in the 1881 Census as Catherine Burns)
is living with the family. From this I deducted her birth year, researched previous English Censuses and only one matches the birthdate and she just happened to be with Laurence Byrne. It has however troubled me that I have only one child, which struck me as strange for an irish couple of that period.
It now looks that we have a possible marriage 1n 1842 so there could have been more children before the daughter Catherine born in 1849.
Your opinions and comments are valued. I am open to any alternative. Thanks Joe

Sorry Joe,
I was just trying to work out the process by which your Catherine would belong to the apparently childless couple, Laurence and Catherine Byrne, but I was obviously missing some steps.
So I take it that the Catherine, born 1849, that we are looking for is Catherine Walker (nee Byrne) and that you have her marriage cert. showing that her father is Laurence Byrne, a tailor.
From the 1881, the mother is Catherine, born about 1823 in Ireland.
Is this correct?
-
Dudley, All that is correct.
So far I have used 1822 as Catherine's birth year.
I also checked all of the other Lawrence and Laurence Byrnes in the Liverpool area
and none were married to a Catherine.
The 1811 Laurence and the 1822 Catherine were the only ones who fitted my search.
If Catherine was Catherine Moore she would have been about 20 years when she married in Dublin 1842, which also looks promising!
What chances are there of finding Catherine Moores birth year and of finding any of their possible children born 1842-1849? Catherine Byrne my Great Grandmother was also born in Dublin c1849.
Do you know anything of St.Andrews Church in Dublin?
Your kind interest in my searcg is most appreciated. Regards from San Antonio, Joseph Walker

Hi Joseph,
I too am researching Dublin, though not Byrnes there, but also researching Byrnes from Avoca for a friend.
The problem here is that 1842 is before civil registration in Ireland.
You would need to know what religion and then St Andrew's would be searchable in Dublin or from an LDS centre if the records are on film.
I checked the website that the marriage was listed on and there is a list of Byrne births too but none for Laurence and Catherine (nee Moore). It looks like the site owner has done a pretty thorough search of Dublin.

Hello Joe,
Have you looked at this website www.ifhf.brsgenealogy.com
An All Ireland Search with father named Laurence shows a number of Byrne births for Dublin including a 1844 Church Baptism for a Laurence Byrne, Co Dublin-----possibly a son of Laurence and Catherine.
Not all records for Ireland are on this particular site but you just might be lucky. It is 5 euros to view each record.

hi again .
ive been researching byrne family in dublin also . your in for a long expensive ride if you use dublin north south brs.genealogy.com sites there are tonnes of laurences ( ive two myself ) .
they as a previous poster charge a fiver per document .
the fact that the sites are north and south dublin is somewhat misleading , they dont cover any of the city center where the bulk of the population lived .
you can look at www.dublinheritage.ie free site they have SOME parish records including st andrews where laur and cath married , hopefully .
have a look at amount of laurence byrne and catherine moores born and of course catherine byrne . as for siblings , yes it would be unusual for there to be only one child as average family size was 10 .
however what most people forget is the great famine . ireland had a population of around 8 million before the famine ( 1840s to 1850s ) between 1 and 2 million people starved to death . 2 million emigrated to england canada and usa . meanwhile ireland exported a bumper harvest of grain and animals to england to pay english landlords there rent . queen victoria did nothing to help , usa sent ship loads of aid but not enough . after the famine population was 4 million , still is .
you can bet this is why laur and cath went to england usually in the hope of saving money to go to america the land of the free , as long as you werent native indian or a slave of course .
i would concentrate on getting catherine byrnes birth records and try gettin laur and catherine moores wedding see if they match up .
with a name as common as byrne your in for a long haul .
goodluck rob
ps there seems to be two st andrews churchs one prot and one cath
