Hi All
I have recently being going through my hundreds of floppy disks that held part of my work in the Lewes Churchyards - these also included Transcriptions done by other Researchers in the past century.
One of the floppies held work done by Bax & Dunkin during the latter part of the 1800's and computerised by myself in 1996.
Churches covered on this floppy include:
Jireh Chapel (5 transcriptions between 1810 & 1860)
Friends Meeting House (8 transcriptions between 1741 & 1854)
Malling Street Burial Ground (17 transcriptions between 1847 & 1891)
St Annes Without (56 transcriptions between 1760 & 1891)
South Malling (28 transcriptions between 1632 & 1836)
All Saints &
St John Sub Castro
Would be happy to check same for a surname connected with your family

If there are any MIs for members of the Potter family, I would be grateful to receive copies. I believe they started in South Malling, but some of them may have moved to other parishes. There were quite a few Potter burials in South Malling between 1798 and 1874 and I believe some of them are my ancestors.
Many thanks, Chris.

Thanks for sending me all that information, Chris. There are several members of my family, including Isaac, my 3xg grandfather and his son Jesse and their wives and children. I am still trying to establish if I am related to the James, for whom you sent me the MI. I did find an obituary for him in a local paper, and he collapsed suddenly with a heart attack as did Jesse. Samuel is either the child of Jesse's daughter, Mercy, or was adopted by her and may be half brother to my grandfather, who was also Jesse but moved to Alfriston.
Your help is much appreciated.

Hi Chris,
Would you mind checking for the surname Vandergucht - sometimes spelt as just "Gucht", or "Van Der Gucht" or variations thereof.
Many thanks

Hi Di
Have scanned through all the surnames of the MI's I have of Lewes and Hastings for the surname "Vandergucht - sometimes spelt as just "Gucht", or "Van Der Gucht"" and any variation that I could think of - but to no avail, the outcome I am afraid is NILL
Sorry about that

Thanks for the further Potter information Chris. I did have some of the earlier ones, but the later ones confirm that Samuel had more children than I thought. There were 3 generations with the name Samuel, the last having been born in 1927.
I shall be going to ESRO next week so can do some more checking. let me know if you need any look ups.
Regards
Flavia

Thanks for checking Chris - I thought I'd seen a mention of the Gucht name on your site at St Thomas on a MI. I must have been mistaken.
Thanks

Hi there Di
Yes, there was a mention on my web space concerning the name - but it was in the description of the church from the Lewes Guide as follows:
St Thomas a Beckett Parish Church (Cliffe)
St Thomas’s church, perhaps founded in the late-12th century when Thomas Beckett was newly martyred. The Gothick porch and south aisle (c1755), the Horsham slate roofs and the gargoyled 15thC tower group well together. The clock (1670) was made by James Looker, a Ditchling blacksmith. The Interior offers a 14thC nave arcade; a squint with a broad agee arch to the chancel; the arms of Elizabeth 1st (1598), made of hard plaster, with a fiery Welsh Dragon; a painting (1645) of the Ascension, Flemish in style, given in 1779 by a London art-dealer, Bernard Van Der Gucht; and the arms of George 1st fluently done.

Hi Toni
In the memorial transcriptions that I have for St Annes in Lewes done in the late 1890's by Ridley Bax FSA and covering the time period 1760 to 1891 - there is no mention of any Taylor or Tester Surnames
Sorry about that
