Title: Kennards of Aldershot
Post by: berylm on Saturday 04 July 09 04:01 BST (UK)
Hi
I am new on this board. I hope I am in the right place!
I have been on Ancestry and have found my gt grandfather's younger brother
Robert Kennard b. Rolvenden, Kent, c1821,
his wife,    Martha Curteis b. c1825 Biddenden, Kent,  and family living at Aldershot.

I can't find the Robert in the Census of 1901. I suspect he may have died.
But  I dont seem to be finding the reference! Any suggestions  where I might go looking?
They are listed with the Royal Engineers for a number of censuses .
If I was to go looking for an LDS church register for a burial, which church might it be?
The wife's death ref I have found, hopefully they will be buried together.

Also,  the 1891 Census is listing
Robert Kennard   70    Head   widower Plumber
Eliza Kennard       38    daughter   single
Robert Walter         9    grandson
On Ancestry, on the connection from Robert, his mother is listed as Eliza.
But I think I read on the original  the name looks like  Robert Nutter,
who I suspect was the eldest son of the other dau., Maria & George Nutter.
I was confused! Has anyone else had this happen!

On the 1881 Census we had met a George Nutter, & he eventually married the other daughter, Maria. I have found the rest of this large family in the 1891 census, also in Aldershot.

Hi Wendy
Yes, it does look like the 1901 census for our Eliza.
Also, thank you so much for the FreeBDM link for Robert Kennard.
I'll check it out.

I have been blown away by the speed of Computer searching.
I have yet to sort out a research strategy of what is searched electronically,
and when you need to revert manual searching to verify information.
Would you believe 2 weeks ago I was unaware of this line.
I am absolutely amazed!  :)
Robert Kennard, and his younger sister Sarah remained in England when the 3 elder brothers emigrated to Australia, (& my ancestor William, then  to N.Z.)
I think I found Sarah last night, but I have yet to verify my hunch.
Thank you so much for your help.

Hi BerylM

Glad I could help. There is loads of info on this site. The resources and links on each county board are very useful. In fact all the resources at the top of each board can help, even if they trigger an idea.

Old photographs are restored too and I've had some wonderful restores & colourizing done. Worth a look.

Good luck

Wendy :)

Martha Curteis may be the daughter of Mathias and Mary
