Title: Andrew Irvine
Post by: Nabla2 on Wednesday 01 July 09 23:25 BST (UK)
I am trying to find some info on Andrew Irvine(shoe maker) who married Christina or Christian Sinclair on 11th July 1813 in Orphir.  They had the following children Mary b.1814, James b.1815, Cecilia b.1817 and Helen b.1819. Cecilia married Andrew Cunning 1850 and died 24 Nov 1861 aged 42 in Dunfermline, Fife.  I would appreciate any help as I am holiday for the next 2 weeks in Orkney and if I could be pointed in the right direction for more info, this would make my holiday. ;)

Regards
Nabla :)

There,s also a David born 19/1/1823 to Andrew Irvine and Christiana Sinclair in Stromness, also only Christian Sinclair born on Orphir who fits your dates is born 13/5/1781 to Peter Sinclair and Christian Wilson.

A visit to the Orkney Family History Society ( in the Kirkwall Library between 2 - 4 pm ) might be helpful, the Orphir and Stromness cemetery inscriptions are not recorded as far as I know and they will be able to tell you where to find them

Hi again, on the 1841 census: Andrew 60 fisherman, Christiana 60, John 30, David 15, Helen 15 and Cicla Sindoni 60 ag lab ( I wonder if thats Cecilia Sinclair, sometimes the spelling on these censuses is weird and wonderful ) ) who is present on the 1851 census on the same page as your Andrew and Christian. ( Gray,s Building,s Stromness )
1851 census: Andrew 69, Christiana 69 Knarston,s Close, if you click on others on the same page there is also a Cecilia Sinclair born in Orphir and Catherine Dunnet and Jane Dunnet ( sisters) possibly Cecilia married a Dunnet?
Cecilia would also fit in with the name of one of their children

Just had a quick check to see if a Cecilia Sinclair was born to Peter Sinclair and Christian Wilson and there she was, born on 1/4/1778 so it looks like Christian and Cecilia were sisters.

I am a genealogy novice from the states. I have my american tree back to 1750 in North Carolina for Sabiston's. I believe my ggggg grandfather David Sabiston born 1750 may be the son of Thomas Sabiston & Anna Gorie of Kirkwall/Orkney/Scotland. I have not seen any Sabiston records prior to 1650 so if I could fill in a few for 1650-1750 would be greatly appreciated!
