Here is another photo from the family archive which could use a little bit of a clean up and information supplied regarding date and the photographers, please. I also include the reverse of the photo for more information. Thanks very much,
Costumier

Have to say this is giving me a headache. The man's dress style looks late 1860's
as does the set.Young men were favouring this style at this time but it did remain
popular for many decades. The absence of a welt pocket also leads me to this date,
however the back of the card is an 1890's design based on the Marion Imp Paris
"seated artist" of 1894.The absence of a seperate buttonhole for his watchchain
would put this before 1888.The artist was at this address in 1881,in 1871 he was
at 209.At the moment I would suggest this is an 1890's reprint of an 1870's picture,
but I'm willing to be proved wrong.

Thanks very much all. The subject is my great grandfather, born 1867! Perhaps he bought the suit 2nd hand? I gather that rag men sold second-hand clothes all the time and the majority of people bought this way, that couldn't afford new! Nevertheless, he looks smart and a good prospect! He had been a coal miner since the age of 12 and went on to be management. Maybe the suit helped?

Even people of limited means would have a "Sunday best".
I can't see a young man wearing outdated clothes.
Everything about this indicates the picture is older than the mount.
