Hi there,
I am looking for the inscription (or if possible a photo) of the gravestone of my great great grandmother, Sarah Ann (Cummings) Hawkins. According to Durham Records online, Sarah died about 31 May 1888 at the age of 32 (the date is from the record, but I'm not sure if its a death date or a burial date) and is buried in Bishopwearmouth Cemetery. The Record # is 456315.2.
She left at least 5 children -- my great grandmother Mary Anne was #3 -- (there was possibly 6th child, there is a baby in a photo we can't place -- maybe Sarah died in childbirth and the baby died soon afterward???) and her husband William Hawkins (a papermaker) remarried in Dec. 1888 to Madeline (Ormston) Laws (it was her 2nd marriage too, she had 2 children from her previous marriage). William Hawkins (senior, he and Madeline had a William b. ca 1891) died about 1917 and Madeline died about 1929. I'm not sure if they are buried in Bishopwearmoth Cemetery near Sarah or not (but if they are, I'd love those inscriptions as well).
Any help I could get would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Lara G.

Hi Lara
Have a look at this link to Bishopwearmouth Cemetery. http://www.sunderlandward.co.uk/ (click on cemetery index).
There is an alphabetical list of names which appear on the memorial inscriptions - sadly Sarah Ann does not appear, but the index might not be complete.
There is an email address which you could try in case they have any further records.
It is of course always possible that there was no gravestone - not every family could afford one.

Thanks Jen,
I looked at the Sunderland ward site too and saw the Hawkins listing (not my Mary Ann...She died in New York City in 1946), but I have bookmarked it to check again later.
Thanks for the help.
