Hi I noticed on your list the surname Rogers {Stanningley}, I have this name in my family tree for this area. Edith Clara Rogers born 1872, Joshua Rogers born 1845 and Joseph Rogers born 1816. All living in Stanningley {Pudsey}. I have partners and siblings for these. Do you have a list of your Rogers?
All the best Darren

My Rogers/Rodgers are plentiful but the main ones are;
Joseph born abt 1791 In High Green and wife Mary Ann born 1808 in Stanningley, they had 8 children I have found my ancestor was Jonas born abt 1835 in Stanningley. He married Ann Lister? born abt 1835 in Farsley, they had 6 children the three youngest I have info on were: Jonas Lister born abt 1869 in Goole, Edith born 1873 in Stanningley (my great grandma) and Joseph A born abt 1876 in Castleford (where the family moved in the early 1870's).
Alot of my info came from www.calverley.info website which has all census returns free to view for, amongst other areas of Leeds, Stanningley.
Hope this helps,
Rachel :)

Rachel,
Apologies, I've only just stumbled across this post. These Rodgers are my ancestors! Jonas Lister Rodgers & Elizabeth Ann (Hammill) are my GG Grandparents.
I have some info on www.martinjourdain.net. It's not that up to date and there may be some mistakes. I have more on www.ancestry.co.uk, which is more up to date, so if you have a subscription I can send you an invite to the tree (I think it's public anyway). Otherwise I can send you a .gedcom file.
Please feel free to contact me, I'll be happy to share what I have.
Regards,
Martin.

Talking of Yorkshire surnames- I recall often laughing as I went back in time when first doing my family history because gradually virtually every local West Yorkshire surname cropped up!
Almost inevitable really since all branches of the family lived in the same area of the Holme Valley right back to the1600's ( with just the occasional injection of "exotic" blood from such places as Barnsley and Brighouse!)

Hi Rachel
I realise it's a while since your message but I have just started my research into my father's family. I think that your Edith Rodgers may also be my great grandmother. My paternal grandmother was Edith's daughter and her full maiden name was Ann Lister Johnson- she was probably given her maternal grandmother's maiden name as a forename. Family legend has it that Edith's father Jonas came to Castleford to build the bridge over the canal! There may be some truth as he is listed as an excaviting contractor. Thanks for the helpful information.

Hello Martin
I have just started researching my father's family and I believe from your postings that your gg grandparent - Jonas Lister Rodgers- was my great grandmother's brother. My G grandmother was Edith Rodgers who married Harry Johnson, their eldest daughter was my grandmother, Ann Lister Moore nee Johnson. I think this name is interesting given your search for Annie Lister Rodgers.Obviously the family were keeping the original Ann Lister's ( married to Jonas Rodgers your gggrandfather's father ) maiden name alive.
You mentioned an on line resource showing graves in Castleford. Would you be kind enough to let me have the website address.
I'm sure that my first steps in family history won't have told you anything new but I'm finding the research fascinating.
Many thanks Jane
