Hi I'm looking for someone my father knew as 'Uncle Arthur' Robinson. He lived in Leek, Staffordshire. My father knew him sometime around 1945. His wife's name was Sally. He was a farmer.
I'm trying to work out how he fitted in with our family. My G G Grandfather's name was Thomas Robinson, b. 1843, in Leek.
Any help would be wonderful :D
(BTW I'm in Australia and my father migrated here in 1955)

You're obviously hopeful, but with so little info you'll be very lucky to find the link . . .You really need to start with Thomas Robinson b.1843 and work forwards - but it's a longshot
If you look at the 1911 census you have a choice of 7 Arthur's in Leek alone!
Here's a farming family in 1901 - the logic being the family name 'Thomas' - possibly Arthur wasn't even born by 1901?
1901 RG13/2625/32/11 - Mixon Hay, Onecote, Leek, Staffs
Thomas Robinson 30 - Head - Farmer - Leek

Thomas Robinson b.1843 Leek appears to be a confectioner in 1881 - bit distant from farming.

Yes, I agree it's a bit of a long shot, but Dad's pretty keen to find out. He's just handed me a photo of the guy with my Grandfather(dec.) and Grandmother (95y/o) next to him on a horse! (It was 1935 and they were 24 and 22 y/o). He looks around 40 (ish).
-
I agree with Laurina.
Looking around 40ish in 1935 doesn't have him in born bef or on 1891
However keep these for future reference

Dad says not, just Ellen, Minnie, and Sarah.
BTW Ellen married John Jenkins, and their daughter Elsie married Harry Robinson, (supposedly unrelated), if that's of any interest.
-
So unless one of her sisters happened to marry a Robinson we need to look further back - maybe to a sibling of Thomas b.1843 being a farmer.

Dad thinks that's quite possible! The son of a brother of Thomas.
Thomas b.1843 his father was Thomas b.1814 and his mother was Sarah b.1817 ....I think.
-
I think this family could well be the connection . . . James looks as though he is your Thomas's elder brother!

Richard E Robinson, 11, Son - (probably the grandson Richard E Dale)
Arthur Robinson 2Q 1881 Leek Staffordshire 6b 317
Quite a lot to mull over.
I'd be tempted to look at two of the Arthur's in the 1911 Census. Arthur aged 29 could well be this one. Arthur aged 9 might be Thomas's son

I eliminated him as he was a Railway Carter in 1901 - I've gone with the 'Farmer' occupation suggested by you. Farming often run in families.

Can't find a 'Sally' for him but there is a marriage to Sarah Holdcroft - not sure if Sally is a pet name for Sarah.

This couple had a daughter - does your father remember if Uncle Arthur had any children?
Edith A Robinson 3Q 1917 Leek, Staffs, 4b 452
Mother: Holdcroft

I think you've done an amazing job Laurina :D Thanks so much. I'll get Dad to look at it all when he gets back.
Cheers!

(12 hrs later..) big family debate going on, phonecalls to grandma etc!! ;D
Grandma (95 y/o) thinks that His wife's name was Sally and they had no kids. Aunt Sally had a sister, Hilda. And there was an Aunt Hannah but we don't know how she fits in! :P
