Title: Warnock Graves Ballyhalbert.
Post by: mum mum on Thursday 25 June 09 20:32 BST (UK)
Hi again,
I have been looking for info about my GGG grandfather Robert Warnock of Ballyeasborough.
His grave is at the Ballyhalbert Church of Ireland graveyard, Ballyeasborough along with his wife and other members of his family.
Is anyone near there, the transcription I have has confused us even more. I dont know if there is a mistake in the transcription or in our tree.
Can anyone help?
Thanks mum mum

Hi,
I don't know if this will help but if you google "proni wills" and enter Robert Warnock you will find two entries for the name, both of Ballyeasboro (sic). They appear to have been fairly wealthy men and the will summery mentions men who may have been relatives.

Hi,
Thanks for that, I found him, thats GGG Grandpa that died in 1863 and two of his sons are mentioned.
Do you know if I could get any more details about where his land was as my sister and nieces are visiting Ireland later this year. Obviously we would love to be able to find where they lived and farmed.
Can anyone tell us how to find the cemetery that I mentioned?

Hi cousin,

I will check what I have on my Ancestry tree and add those  marriages in. I have contacted a descendant of Abigail Warnock and Hugh Colwell here in Australia, I have most of their descendants in my tree now if you are interested.
I recently had a letter from a Warnock who is descended from James Warnock and Margaret Maxwell, he is living very near where the Warnock farm was in Co Down. Hopefully my sister will get to meet him next month when she is in Ireland.
I will PM you too exchange more info.

Hi again,

Hugh Warnock who married Eliabeth Hastings was my GG grandfather, I have those children, its mostly the Irish and New Zealand side of the family that is a mystery to me.
Unfortunately you have an error in the marriage for Thomas Hugh and his children. As I said too many Robert's Thomas's and Hugh's. Thomas Hugh married Mary Joyce, their children were Thomas 1885, Mary 1887, Anna 1889, Herbert 1892, Robert 1894, ( my Grandfather ) John 1896 and Arnold 1898. Mary remarried after Thomas's death and had more children. Mary also raised my father as his mother was unmarried and unable to keep him after my Grandfather was killed in WW1.
Did you get my personal message? I thought new members could recieve them but not send them. After you post another message on here yoou will be able to use it though.
Just go to the little green scroll icon on the left of the page and it will take you to the personal message where you can exchange emails and other private info.

Hello

My name is Claire Louise Warnock, I am the Great Granddaughter of Robert John Warnock and Margaret Walker :) I believe you were researching this family

"Erected by E.S.D Warnock Ballywalter in mem of her beloved son Robert james Warnock born 6 Feb 1871 died 22 Sept 1898, onlu son of the late Robert Warnock Ballyeasborough. Also her daughter Louisa Evans died 1 April 1923, interred in Whitechurch Cemetery. * the above E.s.D Warnock died 9 May 1955".

It so happens that I am Elizabeth Sarah Douglas Warnock's Great Niece :) I believe there maybe a mistake because the one I found was:

"WARNOCK
Erec. by E.S.D. Warnock Ballywalter in mem. of her beloved husband Robert James Warnock born 6 Feb. 1871 died 22 Sept. 1898, only son of the late Robert Warnock Ballyeasborough.
Also her daughter Louisa EVANS died 1 April 1923, interred in Whitechurch Cemetery. The above E.S.D. Warnock died 9 May 1955".

Louisa Evans was my 1st Cousin 3 times removed :)

Please feel free to contact me if you wish :)

I hope this helps :)

Mum Mum and other Warnock Cousins,
I am a Descendant of James Boyd B/ abt 1705 and sarah Warnock.  Sarah is buried in Ballyhalbert cemetery, d/ 1754.  Because one of her sons is named Robert, we thought he father may have been named Robert Warnock.  There is a Robert Warnock buried in Ballyhalbert as well and his wife was Sarah Orr (I believe).  His dates place him as a possible father of Sarah.  He is listed in Ros Davies and two daughters are named, Jane and I think Elizabeth.
You stated you have received a letter from a cousin who lives near that location.  we also have a researcher who lives near by as well.  Does your cousin have any knowledge of this Robert Warnock?  Or does he have any knowledge on any Sarah Warnocks who married a Boyd?

Hi,
It's a while since I have looked at anything family tree related so I'm a bit rusty on all the connections.

I had received a letter from a cousin who lived in this part of Ireland and my Sister has visited with him, however we have lost contact since then. I do have contact with another cousin who is researching her family tree and her Father know the other Warnock cousin so I will  see what she knows.
Do you know the dates of birth and death for Robert Warnock and the Sarah Warnock that are buried in Ballyhalbert. My GGG Grandfather Robert was buried there in 1863 and his wife Abigail in 1878 in the Church of England section I believe.

I can PM you my email address so we can exchange information more easily.

Hello have you any information on a R Warnock who came to Ireland from Australia in the approx 1880’s? He had a brother who was L Warnock who was already in Ireland. I am a descendant of his and have a Warnock family bible who was gifted by the brother on his arrival.

Many thanks

Welcome to Rootschat  :)
Do you have first names and dates for the Warnock brothers L and R? were they born in Australia, Ireland or elsewhere? Do you have a more exact location then 'Ireland'? Religion?

Don't see a lot of male Warnocks with first name beginning with L in Ireland. There is a Leighton Warnock who died in Derry in 1898 age 72 so born c1826- he was buried Derry City Cemetery but no details for place of birth or his parents in their database-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1898/05840/4654040.pdf
Looks like he was living in Strabane when he married in 1845-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1845/09295/5364994.pdf
I've found several Lighton/Leighton Warnocks in Derry records.

Sorry, I do not have Warnock information for you.  Have you tried the new method of research using Family Search.  They have allowed researchers to have access to certain wills and deeds into that have not been indexed yet.  This experimental project uses A.I. to search and read documents for you, but only certain countries can be accessed.  But you are in luck, Australia and New Zealand are part of the project.  To enter his experimental project, use the website of familysearch.org/labs.  You can use your same password that you use for Family Search.  It is fantastic.
Good Luck.
