Thought I'd post my interests as I had a bit of a break through last night.
I always thought Robert Hughes (bn 1796 St Martins Salop) and Mary Parry (bn 1806 Llangollen) who lived at Croggen Iddan near Pontfadog (1841 & 1851 census) died before 1861.
BUT last night I found Robert living in Cysyllte in 1871 living with him is his brother in law Jonathan Parry (bn ~1803) I think Mary has died by this time but it says Robert is married though there is a correction as one of his daughters is listed then crossed out as his wife!
Does anyone recognise the Parrys?
Can anyone help with were a chap from Cysyllte could be buried? Where is the nearest cemetery?
Thanks,
Pam

I also have an Ann Parry born in Llangollen in c 1797.As far as where someone in Froncysyllte may have been buried,he may have buried at the Churchyard of St Davids in Froncysyllte. He could also have been buried at St John's Rhosymedre, which is only about two mile away.Another possibility is the Churchyard of St Collen in Llangollen, which is three miles away.

Thanks William. That helps a lot - I hope to be in the area in May so wanted an idea where to look for a grave.
If you find a Jonathan or Mary please keep in touch, I promise your name's at teh top if I find an Ann ;D
Thank you again,
Pam

Thanks to Gadget Applebiscuits wonderful generosity and kindness there is a bit more info on these poeple now.
From the Llangollen parish records...
Nov 29th 1823 Robert Hughes, otp, ba, and Mary Parry, otp, sp – banns – both made their mark. Witnesses: Charles Thomas (x) and Edward Hughes (parish clerk).
Apple also (amongst many gems) found a very good fit to Jonathan in the Lllangollen records...
April 13 1803 Jonathan Parry, child of John and Margaret Parry, labourer, Crogen Iddon.
So this develops my Parry's further.

Hi Pam
I think the problem you have is the same as a lot of us whose ancestors were from these border areas have - we have to look in so many parishes :( Your's, for example, were registered in St Martin's (Bronygarth area), Llangollen (Crogen Iddon,Froncysyllte, Bache, Pontfadog) and Glynceiriog. I recall you saying that one of the sons was born Selattyn; yet another parish :-\
I've had a good look for William's Anne over the last year or so but never found a good match :'(
I'll keep my eye out for more of yours while looking for my stragglers ::)
Do you think Mary died in Froncysyllte or Pontfadog?

Unfortunately I don't know.
I've lost the family in 1861 there is a possible Robert of a near age but the place of birth I seem to remember (I haven't got the detail and I'm not subscribed to Ancestry at the mo) was "North Wales".
So they are effectively missing for 20 years (1851 to 1871) Crogen then Fron.
They have ceased having children at that point. The unmarried children of Robert and Mary are elusive in 1861 as well. Robert is actually listed as married but I think this is wrong the error with his daughters relationship hints to this.

I think that you were probably unlucky with the 1861 :'( Lots of that census went missing/destroyed because of transfer from Home Office to Registrar General - civil servants being a bit jealous of their property or something and it not being stored properly :(
Something must have caused them to move to Fron (as locals call it) from Gelly - wonder what?
I'll have a look around my death/burial stuff.

Despite "previous criticisms which I have made" I think I have found your Jonathan Parry in 1851,living in Crogen Iddon with his Wife Margaret listed as born in Denbighshire in c 1817,and sons Edward listed as born in Denbighshire in c 1839,and John listed as born in Denbighshire in c 1841.

I trust Pam you don't mind me adding my Parry info to this thread, for I believe I have made a slight breakthrough in my hunt for the Parents etc of my Ann Parry. After her Marriage to John Gabriel at Llangollen in 1821,the couple moved eventually to Cefn Mawr, where I was sent some time ago, some info concerning the Baptism of their son Thomas in 1831.It stated that Ann Parry was the daughter of Henry and Margaret Parry.Which leads me to this afternoon in the Rhosymedre Resource centre of Clwyd FHS,where I was looking through the 1851 Census for Cefn Mawr.I found; Margaret Parry Widow born in Merionethshire in c 1776.
Henry Parry Son born in Ruabon in c 1818.
Sarah Parry Daughter born in Ruabon in c 1821.
John Parry Grandson born in Ruabon in c 1845.
I strongly believe that this could be Margaret who is the Mother of my Ann Parry.I had to leave before I could search for possible Baptisms for Henry,Sarah and John, but I will be there again Thursday.

Although I have still to find a Baptism for my Ann Parry who married John Gabriel at Llangollen in 1821,I have just had news from a contact on Genes Reunited which confirms that her Father was a Henry Parry born in 1764 in Llangollen, the son of Thomas Parry and Elizabeth Williams who married at Llangollen on the 26th of July 1756.Henry Parry married a Margaret Morris at Llangollen in 1796.

Goodness reading through this thread takes me back to those long, dark, snowy days when I first joined RChat - what happened to the Applebiscuit :o :o :o
William - I have a query:
If you can't find a baptism for your Ann Parry in the records, how did the contact on Genes Reunited know that Henry Parry was Ann's father? What extra evidence was there - a reference on a marriage record or something ???
You know my views on GR, so I'm always a doubting Thomas where they're concerned.

The connection my contact has is somewhat complicated,Henry Parry who incidentally had a twin sister Elizabeth, had a brother Evan born in 1761 who first married an Elizabeth Lewis at Llangollen on the 27th of February 1786.The contact is descended from the Lewis family.I have long noted that when Ann Parry married John Gabriel, one of the witnesses was a David Lewis.

Hello,
i have just discovered the Parrys. I have the same information as you, plus I found Thomas and his brother Jonathan living with their mother Margaret on the same page as Robert and Mary in 1841, Crogen Iddon.. that's as far as I have got. I also thought perhaps Mary was elsewhere on Census day in 1851 as Robert says he is still married..but not managed to identify her. In one Census, Robert and Mary's son is down as also being born in Shropshire.
I have a baptism for Robert to David Hughes and Mary, possibly Edwards, in St Martin's Salop. I also found a possible baptism for Mary Parry in 1808.. so she would only have been 15 when she married Robert.
I am descended from Robert Hughes bn 1828, son of Robert and Mary. He settled in Froncysyllte.

I find a number of my Froncysyllte ancestors have connections to St.Martin's Shropshire, due to the canal system, or the industry surrounding it. In the early 19th Century the canal would have been the highway of it's day, there would have been much movement back and forth.

Hi Doublecourt,
I'm descended from Richard Hughes, Robert's younger brother :)
I don't have much more than I posted 13 years ago :D but I'm happy to share my notes.
