Hi All
Looking for parents of James Leese born 1852, Rugeley, Stafford, wife Ann Jane Massey Born 1853 Hanley Stafford.
Up to now I have found I think his father Richard Leese born 1813, Rugeley, Staff.
I have them together on the 1861 Census, but not a mother.
I have found 2 possible mums Fanny 1813 and Ann 1826, not found any birth or marriages for Richard or either wives.
Perhaps someone out there can help, I hope so ! ! ???
Thanks
Sue

Hi Tati
Just found the 1851 Census, Richard & Fanny, but no James on that one.
Thanks
Sue

Well, it was before he was born...
Was he James Sheldon Leese, registered Lichfield Dec 1852?
If so, this extracted IGI marriage looks promising:
Richard Smith Leese - Fanny Sheldon
7 Jan 1837 Wolstanton, Staffordshire
:)
-
Yes!
He was James Sheldon, that was the birth I had.
How ever did you find the marriage ??
I have hunted and hunted but found nothing
I bow to your experience
Sorry to have to ask this, what is IGI and where do you find it
Thanks
Sue

Hi all..
the 1851 will confirm the Richard leese is living with Fanny in Brians lake Lane same address as 1861 (but without Fanny ).
-
The IGI is the International Genealogical Index. Far from complete but definitely one to bookmark!
(coverage is shown on Hugh Wallis' site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm)
It's on the LDS site: www.familysearch.org

Found the marriage to Fanny and also I think Fanny's birth. ;D
Will have a look for wife No 2 now, Ann.
Thanks for all your help
-
Are you sure he was married twice? ???
(Thomas dies in 1870 I believe?)
-
No not sure,
Only I found an Ann Leese in a 1881 census, with a Grandson Richard Leese 1878, thought that might have been ... the son of Richard 1844 ? or am I trying to make things harder for myself !
Did you mean Richard and not Thomas died in 1870 ?
-
Yes sorry, I meant Richard :-X
Death Richard Smith Leese age 58
Dec 1870 6b 126
It would help if we could find out what became of Fanny. Richard is shown as married in 1861, otherwise I'd have suggested this could be her death:
Fanny Leese, Jun 1857 Lichfield 6b 199
Shame it's too early to show her age at death
There doesn't seem to be another marriage for Richard Smith Leese as far as I can see.
Can you post the 1881 census reference for Ann so we can try to trace her back, see where it leads us?
-
Couldn't manage to post it
She was
Ann Leese .. 1827 .. Wolstanton, Stoke
Grandson .. Richard .. 1878
-
Tracing Ann back to 1861, when we have your Richard elsewhere, we have:
1861
RG9/1926 113 41
Tunstall, Staffordshire
King St
Richard Leese, head, 35, Potter, b. Shropshire Adderley
Ann, wife, 35, b. Staffordshire Stoke upon Trent
James, son, 12, Potter, b. Scotland Glasgow
Ann M, dau, 8, scholar, b. Tunstall
John, son, 6, scholar, b. do.
Arthur, son, 4, scholar, b. do.
Mary, dau, 1, b. do.
Mary Walker, mother in law, wid, 59, Paintress Potter, b. Trent Vale
So it's a different family :)
-
Well that's one less to worry about
Thanks

Hi. James Sheldon Leese was the third son of Richard Smith Leese and Fanny Sheldon. Richard was a Wharfinger at Rugeley. Richard Smith Leese the oldest son of Richard and Fanny was my mother inlaw's Grandfather.Fanny died 13th April 1857 aged 45.
Richard the elder died 11thDec1870 at Etruria Vale Shelton. James was a greengrocer in Hanley and had five children. Where do you fit into this?
