Please can you re-post? I've tried to make sense of what you have stated, and tried to look up records, but none of this makes sense. Please try to be more specific and accurate with dates, and I'll see what I can find.

Aha! This makes much more sense - I was looking for a Richard BOWDEN, not KENNARD. :)
I think you'll find that Elizabeth's name was probably BOWDEN, not BOWYDEN.
The 1841 census for Loddiswell is indexed at
http://homepages/ihug.co.nz/~our4bears/L~DD41.htm
and you can ask for free look-ups from the parish registers at
http://homepages/ihug.co.nz/~our4bears/L~DDI.htm
Hope this helps.

Ok there was another John Kennard having children at this time in Loddiswell. His wife was Mary Ann LIGHT.
They had a Robert born 1843.
The censuses I posted have Robert on 1841 census but not on 1851. I cant find him 1851, he could have died.
Do you have your Roberts marriage cert? and where did he marry Leah GOODMAN? I cant find marriage in England for them.
Off to bed,
trish

The only Leah GOODMAN I can find is:
HO107/1876 Folio 9, Page 10
Wodden House, Kingsbridge, Devon
William GOODMAN Head Marr 38 Ag Lab b. Chivelstone, DEV
Eliza GOODMAN Wife Marr 29 b. South Pool, DEV
Leah GOODMAN Dau 9 Scholar b. West Alvington, DEV
Elizabeth GOODMAN Dau 11 b. Kingsbridge, DEV
Thomas SOUTHWOOD Neph 2 b. West Alvington, DEV
A marriage is shown in Plymouth in 1866 for a Leah GOODMAN, but not to a Robert KENNARD.
The 1861 census shows a John KENNARD born 1799, Loddiswell, Blacksmith, married to a Mary ANn b. 1801, children: James 22 & Robert 18, both Smiths, all living in Loddiswell.
The same family is also shown in 1851, with children: John 19, Mary A. 15, James 12, Susan 10 and RObert 7.
So, as Trish rightly points out, there are 2 John KENNARD families. Which is yours?

Leah Goodman had a sister elizabeth. Who also married a kennard brother. Which one i don't know. They might have stayed in England. Maybe Leah married twice Peggy
-
Elizabeth GOODMAN married Richard KENNARD, Sept qtr 1869, Kingsbridge district vol 5b page 357.
The 1861 census shows that Leah was in Plymouth in service, so this adds up.
The possibilities for Leah to have married are Isaac EDWARDS or George DENBOW.

Thank you. Great job. Peggy
-
Just was wondering why your census don't have birth dates like ours do? Peggy
-
Until July 1837, births were not registered. The only formal recording of an event was a baptism in Church. Many people weren't even certain of their exact birthdate as illiteracy was very high.
US censuses did not include birthdates in 1860, 1870 or 1880. I don't know about 1890, but 1900 gave the month and the year.
-
ok Thank you Peggy

Trish seems to have the right imformation.
I might have missed this earlier, but I know someone called Trish that is very connected to the Kennard family. I am trying to help NZ friends with their tree which includes Kennard from Devonshire I am looking at re-establishing contact with the lady concerned even if only to exclude any connection with the 2 families.
Currently I can take my friend's connection back to Robert Avery/Avory Kennard, baptised at Loddiswell, Devon and it would appear that he is the son of Robert and Mary Kennard.

Hi Shizara,
Although I was born in New Zealand I have no connection to the Family at all.
Will look around for you tomorrow as its late here in Oz.
