please can anyone help me, I have a Harriett Pallett born 1820 Bayford herts, on the ancestry site other family trees have her father as James Pallet born 1776. mother Mary Mardle 1782
But on Harrietts marriage cert her father is given as William Pallett, is there any way to find a birth for harriett so maybe I can see who her father was.
than you.

Hi
Never completely trust somebody else's version of your family tree. The fact that her marriage cert shows her father as William is sufficient evidence that the other tree is wrong

hI Carolew, Thank you for your advise, I am still on the trail of william Pallet but all I have is a marriage cert for harriett pallett, who was married in hackney, so maybe I will look in that area, as it seems a long way from hertfordshire just to get married,
Thanks again cockneylass

Hi
In 1841 she was still in Bayford working as a servant. Indexed as Harriet Pallitt

Hi! Nell thank you for your list of the Pallett family, I did not have this information so thank you.
Still looking for parents of Harriet, but not much luck looking for a William Pallett who might be her father.
Let you know how I get on.

Hi.
I found the baptism entry for Harriett in the Bayford PRs at HALS and can confirm that her parents are recorded as James and Mary.

Hello Peter, All I have to go on is Harriet's marriage cert 1842 17th April, Married in Hackney Father William Pallett, a Gardner. Harriet was living in Dalston at the time, which is near Hackney .
but thank you for looking for me.

There would appear to be 2 Harriets. The one mentioned on the 1841 census as living in Bayford, would appear to the the one who was baptised in Bayford whose parents were James and Mary. This is clearly not your Harriet whose father was William. Why do you believe that your Harriet was also born in Bayford?

hello Rick, What made me think that Harriet was born Bayford was by looking at a Ancestry family tree, who had Harriett marrying Joseph Allen in Hackney, it said that she was the child of James Pallett and Mary Mardle. It was only when I recieved the marriage cert that her father was William.
Joseph Allen came from stapleford herts. Do you think I am in the right area? or should I go to london and look for Harriet?.
Thank you for your time and input.

I think that the Ancestry tree may be right despite the disparities, because I note that on the 1861 census, ( RG9/447 Folio 29 Page 6.) Bayford Harriet is married to a Joseph ALLEN and that she is living in Coulsdon, Surrey, so it would appear that your Harriet was indeed born in Bayford. It would be quite a coincidence for 2 Harriett PALLETTs to marry 2 Joseph ALLENs!
This still leaves us with a problem though doesn't it, because the marriage certificate gives her father as William and the baptismal record gives her father as James. As there are other baptismal records for James and Mary's children at Bayford, it may be that the marriage certificate is incorrect. The Vicar/Registrar may have got muddled or her father was William James, but he preferred to be called James for example.
Why not contact the Ancestry tree holder and ask why they decided to give her father as James and not William? They may have already encountered this problem and found an explanation.

My partners Grandfathers half sister was married to a Les Pallett from Herts, not sure where but the rest of the family were from Takeley, Herts. They had two children david and Margaret. Mary the wife born about 1910 so guess Les was about the same.
Any connections?

Hello There,
You will probably be interested to know that my family originate from Bayford and a Clara E Pallett b1891 married Joseph Saunders Sept 1911. Sadly she died Dec. 1918. I am in touch with a closer relative than I am. If you wish and if he gives permission I can pass his email onto you.
