Hi
I wonder if anyone knows of a house or home known as Glenbank in Port Glasgow. My maternal grandmothers death certificate gives this as her home address in 1928. She died in gateside hospital and within 2 years her husband died and the children were admitted in to a childrens home in Lanark.
No one I have spoken to knows of this address so any information would be great,

Not sure if this helps, but there is a potential reference to Glenbank showing in the 1901 census for Port Glasgow.
The address shows as Glen Avenue Glen Bank, Port Glasgow. The surname of the family living there at that time was Stirling.

I don't know what the local history resources are for the Port Glasgow area but just some ideas:
By the sounds of it, the children were relatively young when your grandmother and grandfather died. What address showed on their birth certs?
If you are local, have a look at this link www.inverclyde.gov.uk/Search.aspx?k=family+history In particular I would look at the library sections, in particular the WATT LIBRARY where you could look at various reference materials to try and determine where the address was located in old maps. The staff in these libraries are a fountain on local knowledge and will hopefully be able to guide you in the right direction :)
