Hi,
Never been here before.
For 20 years I have been looking for my grandfather, and who his parents might be,who joined the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in 1891 until 1902 with reg number of 3466 then rejoined in 1914 until 1918 with the reg number of 3770
His name is Walter James Lake, from Liverpool, attested at Romford in 1891 into the Royal Warwickshire regiment, with the registration number of 3466.
He is also on the British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Card 1914 1920 with the Reg No of 3770
My question is this "Is it possible for the same man to have two registration numbers even if he has reenlisted into the same regiment?"
Could someone assist me please

Welcome to Rootschat Vivien.
Just been rooting around in the army "pension records" and the 1919 cover sheet for 3770 CSM Walter James Lake's discharge in 1919 sits on top of the papers of 3466 Walter James Lake from 1891-1903 so It think it's definitely the same man.
In 1891 he says his mother is Mary Lake, 302 Everton Road, Liverpool.

Hi Vivien
Yes is the answer...Have you got his Service record on Ancestry pre 1913? Boer war and Sudan veteran.
The Medal Card is for the Silver War Badge....He was discharged With Sickness in 1919 joining up in Sept 1914 i cant find evidence he served overseas in WW1 there MAY be another card.
He was a Company Sgt Major so may have held an instructing post for recruits due to pre war experience
From the Cover note on his records it states 3rd Batt heres their 1914-18 movements.
August 1914 : in Warwick. A training unit, it remained in UK throughout the war.
Moved to Portsmouth in August 1914, then to Isle of Wight. In Dover by November 1917.

That name's cropped up before...
"Flora Campbell apparently went to work for a family in New York and travelled with them to Bermuda where she met her husband Walter James Lake, a soldier in the 3rd and 4th Warwickshire Regiment"

I don't think that the earlier military record will be online

It is ... it is with the WW1 sickness discharge papers in the "Pension Records" on Ancestry. Very interesting it is too.

Good spot Shaun with the link to the NZ part....Bermuda ties in with his Service History.

I wonder what his real name was?
The Everton Road address he gave to the army was bogus, I think. The numbers don't go that high.
