I would like to request any information on the Public House called Wheatsheaf Inn circa 1820's - 1890's. Past/ present photo, address,owners...etc. Any information would be more than I have at present... thank-you very much

Hi
I've just Googled and there are quite a few links, including this one which list a Henry Goodman as the licenced victualler there in 1881 plus his family:

thank-you very much for your time on this topic. But, I have a question, what does Waterside have to do with the Wheatsheaf Inn?

If you look at the photo on the link, you'll see the Wheatsheaf Inn on the left hand side.
The same site has a location map which shows the location of the Inn:

The Waterside site is really worth exploring. I've found this on it as well:

The Wheatsheaf Inn is now called The Waterside 8)
I'm sure I've had a drink there in days gone by.

I just researched Waterside a bit more. I get the impression that Saltash nicknames it towns parts like Boston U.S.,Southie...Northend...etc. I am most interested in Wheatsheaf in 1851 as my ancestor George Steer was Inn Keeper at that time. I try to be thorough ans research plus or minus 20 years,to get a feel of the way the area changes. I must include Waterside in my searches. Thank-you for the insight.

Hi
I lived in Saltash (my parents still do, I was there this afternoon) & know the waterside well. My mum worked in the rival 'Boatman' in the 80's.
'The Wheatsheaf' changed name in the 90's to 'The Waterside'. The owners were a couple who had three pubs in the town (Mike & Shelia) including 'The Brunel' & 'The Ploughboy'. When they split the husband got 'The Waterside' but sold it. My parents were down there for Saltash May Fair & noticed it's now closed down.
I'd like to say it was a lovely cosy pub but it was very dated & tired looking. I used to pop regularly.
The Waterside still has a strong community. There was a ferry many years ago that would cross the Tamar & they have started the tradition again in the summer months. A lot of the area was rebulit after the war but there are still a few gems hidden away. 'The Boatman' is one along with Mary Newman's cottage.

Thank-You very much. I couldnt figure out why google and other types of that search came up with nothing on the Wheatsheaf. At the rate our history and historical treasures are disappearing, I fear when/if an opportunity to see these places of interest to me, they will be gone. Can I ask if you have any friends that might be able to take photos of the building that housed the Waterside,i dont know if access to inside the building is possible?
