hi I am trying to trace a distant relative William Peerless(strange middle name!) Pearce
he was a twin brother to Edward, born in dorset in 1856. I have marriage details of Edward his twin
his wife was Charlotte Stoat born in 1802, can anyone help find him?
thankyou!
-
Hi,
Twin brothers Edward and William Peerless Pearce born Dorset 1856.
Edward's wife is Charlotte Stoat born 1802; are those years correct? He is 54 years younger than his wife?
Do you know where the twins were born or where the marriage took place?

Great work Laurina! :D
I'd been hunting for them in Dorset; there are several Pearce families living in Portland.

I was too until I found a birth for William Peerless Pearce. Wish I could find a marriage for Charlotte Stoat.
I've had a lovely time sorting them out!

yes that info was great! I am now trying to find Elizabeth Shears who I believe may have been
married to Edward Pearce I think she was born 1812 Dorset can you find anything
about her please? :) :) ;)
-
First off - I think she was born 1852 :D
Chalbury is in Wimborne district.
There are two possible birth registrations:
Elizabeth Shears Q1. 1852 Wimborne Vol. 5a. Pg. 285
Elizabeth Shears Q3. 1853 Wimborne Vol. Vol 5a. Pg. 243
and one death : Q3. 1853 Wimborne; I suspect this might be the lass born Q3. 1853 :-\
Therefore, one candidate. See later post :-[
1861
RG9. P. 1337 Fol. 4 Pg. 3
Gaunts Common, Wimborne
SHEARS
John Head Wid 53 Landed Proprietor B. Dorset, Hinton Martlet
Eliza Dau 18
John Son 11
Henry Son 9
Elizabeth Dau 7
children all born Wimborne
1851
South Common, Wimborne
SHEARS
John Head M 42 Grocer B. Dorset, Hinton Martlet
Elizabeth Wife M 40
Elizabeth Eliza Dau 7
Mary Jane Dau 5
John Son 1
others all both Wimborne
This gives Elizabeth's mother.
-
In 1871 Elizabeth was a housemaid in a small household in Wimborne Minster.
Marriage Q4. 1842 Wimborne . Vol. 8 Pg. 277
John Shears ; Elizabeth Thompson on the page
The only death registered for an Elizabeth Thompson in Wimborne between 1852 and 1861 is that I mentioned previously - so :-[ Not one of two babies, but Elizabeth's mother :-[
(note to self : never assume :-[ )
This means that either of those two birth regs. could be your Elizabeth, but maybe the 1853 and her mother died in childbirth :-\
-
1841: John Shears age 32 South Common, Wimborne. Living alone, Ag Lab.
There is a submitted baptism on the IGI : John Shears 6 Nov 1808 Hinton Martlet, parents George and Mary
1841 : Elizabeth Thompson, living in Wimborne with Jonathan Thompson age 64 of Independent means.
Extracted baptism for Elizabeth on IGI Mar 1810 Parents Jonathan and Mary.

hi mum44 ,
thanks for the info I will have to check this out. :) :)
-
Hi Flannery,
How are you related to Elizabeth Shears or Edward Pearce?
They were my g.g. grandparents.
If you need infos just ask.
PS:I don't have the right infos about her family, but her mother name should be Elizabeth.
-
I believe my greatgrandmother was Ann Pearce (b.1838 in Lymington Hampshire) daughter of Edward and Charlotte Pearce both born circa 1806.
She married my greatgrandfather James Keeler on December 6th 1863 and lived at Woodhouse Lodge Dulwich,Kent.
Their first child Fanny Charlotte was born in Lymington on 15th. November 1864.I am trying to find further information concerning her family in Lymington and any early links with my greatgrandfather.
-
Re: Ann Pearce. Edward married a Charlotte Stoat at Boldre (Hampshire).9th October 1822 Boldre.
According to 1841 census .
Your Greatgrandmother Ann,was sister to my GreatGreatgrandfather James.
Children : James 15, Walter 10, Mark 5, Henry 4, Ann 3, John 7months.
(All show as born in county ages in 1841 16+ were rounded down to nearest 5 years.)
I believe that Charlottes parents are this couple:
James Stoat Married Hannah Knap 23 May 1801 Boldre.
I have found 2 other Baptisms for children of this couple:
John Peerless Stote or Stoat 17th June 1804, and WalterStoat 13 th April 1806
This may be te Baptism of James:James Stoat son of George Stoat and Jane stoat Baptised 16th July 1780 Boldre.

Thanks very much Flannery.
With regard to my greatgrandmother Ann Pearce. In the 1851 Census she was living in Portsea Island Landport, Southsea aged 13years old which ties in with her date of birth (born Lymington 1838).
In later life she became a florist (noted as proffession in 1881 census) and the family owned a Nursery in New Beckenham Kent.A Florist shop carried on at West Wickham Kent as far as I am aware toward the end of the last century run by a descendant Pearl White.
I guess Ann Pearce may have started work at the tender age of 13years, possibly doing something that led to her later proffession. Possibly this is where she met my Greatgrandfather James Keeler (b.1835 in Ireland we believe ).
Have you any other thoughts as to why she may have been in the Southsea area?
-
Further to my earlier e-mail concerning an Ann Pearce staying in Portsea . As mentioned a few months ago she was 13 in 1851 census and staying with her Auntie Fanny Smith nee Pearce, who was also born in Lymington, her husband was John Smith who was a Caulker by trade. I think this could be my great grandmother but would be interested to know if Fanny Smith nee Pearce was a sister to Edward Pearce (born 1802 in Boldre) my greatgrandmothers father.
I am not aware of other brothers and sisters but would imagine there were. :)

Sorry if this response is too late to be useful, bit I have only just joined Rootschat. I am descended from Walter Stote, the younger brother of Charlotte Pearce (nee Stote), and can provide you with their family's origins back to the early 17th century, and probably back to 1500. It's too complicated to summarise in a post, but I have the information written up, and can Email it if you would like (or can one add attachments to these posts?). I have also attempted to trace all other New Forest Stotes, in the same document.
-
I received a PM in response to my first post (re Charlotte Pearce), but am not (yet) allowed to reply, because I haven't made enough posts. I cannot see how to add an attachment (PDF file) to this posting, which makes me wonder whether I'll persevere with Rootschat. Can anyone who is interested in the Stote family suggest a practical solution within the rules and practice of Rootschat?
